Honda CBR1000RR-R SP 2024 vs V4R 2023

Having tyre circumference data based on lean angle and acceleration for the traction control to use was an eye-opener - I had no idea it went into such fine detail.

thats pretty standard. Motec of BMW supports the same stuff.
also EVO 3 does more or less the same (less precision) thats why calibration is required.

Evo 3 takes into account outside tire diameter…and gearing changes, it doesn’t take into account inside tire diameters at various lean angles to calculate slip.

But what Ducati does well is they have that 70 virtual sensor thing that then uses data from their racing teams to create algorithms for this stuff…which is pretty sick because it does everything for you, but only within Ducati’s defined perimeters, so you have to use their assumed data and equipment like Pirreli tires only not real adjustible perimeters like the Honda does.

I suspect that if you ran Dunlops or Bridgestones on a Ducati, with their different shaped carcasses, it will at least slightly throw off their rider aid algorithms.

Which fits in to what seems to be Ducati‘s whole ethos: “We’ll make what we think works for you best, within what we tell you to use on it, and how we tell you to use to use it.”

Whereas Honda’s Ethos seems to be: “We’ll make a bike that works how you want it to, with whatever you want to use on it, and however you want to use it.”

What’s the cost of Motec for the BMW? Motec isn’t exactly standard issue…

It’s $9000 to get started, then you need all the add ons…and as complicated as the HRC software seems at first glance, it’s actually usable by the lay person if you are patient and go one step at a time…whereas Motec requires a 9 hour class to get started, then backend support from a Motec guru to operate well.

I had a feeling it was on a different level, at least in terms of cost.

Just realised that Steven posted this a few pages ago - it popped up on YouTube and I had not realised it was already on here, but here it is anyway:

I posted this on Page 5 tyvm…

Nope…believe me I’ve looked into it in detail.

RoadracerX has an Alpha BMW…he’s a software engineer by profession and has decades of experience with these bike electronics…and the Motec system on the Alpha was so complicated that he bricked it trying to adjust it and had to have the regional Motorad guy un-brick it.

Sent you link to AlphaRacing pricing
Okay I stand corrected, $7000 not $9000 for the Motorad version…when I looked into one for Ducati it was $9000….still so complicated that you need a specially trained tech to run it. I familiar with the Motec stuff in general from my car that runs it, great software, but have to be trained to use it.

For the Motorad version you still need a 4 hour class and even after that my buddy bricked it trying to use it.

Includes data logging and switches - it actually seems like you get more for the money.

doing trackdays in covid times was the best time ever

Motec never ended up releasing anything meaningful for Ducati. SBK Unlimited got alpha version of ECU but no new updates since then.

Rest is non-sense again.

You pay for classes if you're not bright enough to figure out it yourself or have mates around who can help you.

What you showed in HRC is identical in Motec. You managed to understand HRC without classes, didnt you ?

Actually you’re right, it’s been a couple years so my memory is faulty, was the Magneti Murelli stuff that was $9k for Ducati.

How did you like your Alpha, my buddy says it’s a great bike while running, but has electrical gremlins about not wanting to start sometimes, and over heats easily like all race bikes do…so if you find yourself waiting in the pit lain you don’t want to shut the bike off in case it won’t start, but then it overheats super fast if you don’t shut it off. So for track days it got annoying for him.

The only issue I had (unrelated to M-RCK) was camshaft position sensor failure. The rest is fine.

Overheating is not an issue, as electrical stuff. Something must have been done wrong on your buddy's bike.

Mind you BMW S/M 1krrs have been probably the most popular bikes at trackdays in the UK and EU since ~2019. Honda took some of that market away, no doubt.

But all in all BMW = Honda in stock form and with M-RCK/HRC kits. Different seating position/pegs, slight difference in geometry but overall bikes and what they offer is identical.

One of the best sources for HRC setup. I wonder if you can just email him to ask some questions
