WOW no feedback... what did all you carbon freaks do ??

I just used the old fashioned torque wrench built naturally into the wrist and then a check after a ride. Just nip it up till it feels right, and don,t twist the head off. Working so far 5 months later.

You don't need a torque setting! Bit of locktite and tighten it up. Done.

+1, I have never torqued anything except internal engine parts,. I have always went with tight is tight, and if you are worried use blue or pink locktite.Never had a problem even in race conditions (safety wire of course). Do you really think windscreen screws need a torque setting.

Hi D1199,

If my memory serves me correctly from when i installed mine, the original bolts installed in the magnesium cover at factory did not have any locktite on them at all.
This was the case for both the generator and clutch covers.
There are installation instructions included in the packaging with your DP Carbon covers/protectors.
Both sets of instructions state clearly, to torque the (longer) replacement bolts (which are also in the respective kits) to a value of 10 nm, which i dutifully followed to the letter using a torque wrench. I subsequently used the torque wrench whilst set at 10 nm to check the tension of the other bolts on the clutch and generator covers whilst i was there, and didn't notice any appreciable change. The instructions do not state to put locktite on the replacement bolts. I would suggest that it is not required.
I think it is important to note that at the time. if i hadn't used a torque wrench it would have been possible that i could have accidently overtightened the bolts just using the feel through my hand. I have been known to be slightly heavy handed at times, so it's best to be safe than sorry.

Something to note though, is that when trial fitting the DP Clutch cover/protector it was best to put the washers that come in the kit under the carbon piece (ie: between the carbon protector and magnesium clutch cover). Otherwise the DP carbon piece will be slightly overstressed when tightening the bolts down, as it seems a bit short to the bolt mounting faces. You will no doubt experience the same thing on yours.

Regards,
Brad

In regards to your 2nd paragraph. That is exactly what the instructions say to do. At least it did on my copy.

Hi Brad,

Many thanks for your answer that helps a lot !! I will follow and let you know how it turns out... that is exactly the info I needed as you stated I have a similar challenge "better tight than not" methodology and sometimes I over tighten, not any more though.....

Thanks again appreciate the feedback !!
