So now I am totally up in the air! Trying to weigh (no pun) the differences between the BST Carbon wheels or a set of Magnesium ones. Anyone ever had BOTH of them in their lifetime who could give me a pro & con list of each?
Carbon looks awesome and of course costs more, but the mag ones look pretty sharp as well. Especially the Gold set on a Tri colors on the 1199. Any advice and input is greatly appreciated.

I did a search of this topic first and read thru them all, but have not found anything definitive to make a educated decision.
Thanks folks!
*oops , I think I pasted the forged alum ones instead of magnesuim, but meant mag ones!

Carbon rims burst into pieces upon impact, magnesium dents.

Carbon rims are lighter than magnesium
Magnesium rims are lighter than aluminium.

Price tag wise, carbons are the most expensive =)

Personal opinion .. I really prefer the rims on the Tricolore.

I have the 7-spoke BST wheels on my 2008 Triumph Speed Triple. They are the same wheels you are looking at (designed for the Ducati), but I had the BST factory machine some different hubs to fit the Triumph.

Anyway, I've had them on the bike for a couple of years and the are absolutely amazing. They are extremely light, strong and durable. Because the Triumph had relatively heavy, cast wheels, I lost about 15 lbs of rotating mass which totally transformed the handling, braking and acceleration. See: http://www.triumphrat.net/speed-triple-forum/125789-bst-carbon-fibre-wheels.html

Sorry, I can't comment on the weight difference between the BSTs and the 1199's wheels; but I wanted to dispel any rumours bout the utility and durability of the wheels.

Pulled the Trigger, Finally!

As stated earlier in this post I am riding 2.5 hours down to my dealership to have first service conducted and whole bunch of carbon accessories installed. After reading hundreds of reviews from both reputable organizations and from members on many forums I was totally on the fence about the wheel issue. Well, yesterday I finally dropped down the plastic and bought the BST Carbon Fiber Wheels to have mounted this Saturday also! Will post pics and MY reviews Sunday perhaps. Wonder how it's all gonna look when paired with the new matte finish carbon DP decided to make this year? Oh well, no turning back now my friends! -lol :D

Gunny Fitz,

I imagine that the BST Carbon Fiber wheels along with the DP Carbon on a Tricolore will look AWESOME. Good luck with the installation and have a safe ride back, the forum awaits your pictures with keen interest.

You took them shiny or mat carbon?

Mine are at the painter, I m making them satin finish to get the same look as the DP carbon ;-)

nope

No sir. I dont like the matte "satin" finish nearly as much. If I were to do something I would get the rest of the stuff clear coated to match the wheels. Not a huge fan of this new plastic looking carbon stuff. Therefore I shall stay with that high gloss shiny awesome looking BST wheel .oohrah!

Negative on Those!

Lol :D

I meant the ceramic bearings:)

Actually, I was talked out of the ceramic bearings by some experts who deal with the BST lines. Something about them being used up against steel does not produce a good result. Now if they were ceramic against ceramic like the Moto GP bikes, etc its a different story. They all said NOT to go with these, and they could easily tell people how great they are and sell the .... outta them, but honestly prevailed!
