Quick question, has anyone checked/counted their chain links ? Now before you suggest that I need to get out more :p I'm not trying to beat the winter withdrawals by randomly counting Panigale parts  I normally change the final drive gearing and I was doing a little research to this end. I noticed that despite the owners manual + Afam, Renthal etc quoting a 106 link chain, my Pani has a 104 link (double/triple checked) jobbie ???

My calculations i.e 15T front, 39T rear and 24" between centre of gearbox output shaft / centre rear axle comes out at the 104 links that I have. Now I am wondering is it a mis-print or do I have the wrong length chain. I am not sure if the eccentric tensioner would allow for such a differance.

Anyway I wonder if someone out there could do me a favour and check their chain and post back. Thanks ;)

It is indeed a mis-print. Chain length is 104 links with 39-15, double checked !!!

If you are going for 41-15 you will need 106 links.

Thank you my friend, just as I thought, I appreciate you double checking for me .

I'll probably drop one tooth off the front for now, when funds allow I want to change the rear sprocket carrier and hub.

Thanks again.

Am I correct in thinking that you have to fit the chain split, then make the join?

Dont know why I'm asking really, as it would need to come with another swing-arm otherwise :p

usually you buy a chain, they usually come in lengths of 104, 110 etc. With a chain tool (the DID one is exc and is what I've been using for years). As soon as you determine no. of links, you cut it to size, thread around sprockets. THe chain comes with either a rivet or cliptype master link. I prefer the rivet type (which you set with the same DID tool).

I've done half a dozen chains or more this way.

Easier then messing with the chain, a good tig welder could cut your arm, then weld in a spacer piece of metal. A CF cover, and you'd never know it was there! :D

Believe it or not. I had a friend, the dealer told him they'd have to disassemble the swingarm to put on a continuous length chain as they didn't believe in using master links. They wanted something like 2 or 3 hrs labor!

At least they can't do this on 1199, chain goes through the swing-arm :p

Jesus never use "cliptype masterlink" on any motorcycle with this kind of power out  All endless chains comes with a "soft rivet link" thats where you break the old and join the new.........
I've had confimation from Ducati Bologna that the manual is mis-printed and we do in fact have 104 link chains............
