I'm getting to the point where I need to do the 15k mile service on my V4 so I pull out the owner's manual and see what's needed. The big ticket item is the valve service (desmo) but there are some other things like spark plugs, air filter, etc. I notice there is also this line item:

When I look in the parts catalog there is nothing for "engine oil mesh filter assembly". I assume they're referring to the two oil mesh filters installed on the oil pump which has to be removed in order to access them. Has anyone done this service and can confirm this is correct?

There are also two additional oil mesh filters but according to the service manual these can be cleaned and apparently don't need to be replaced:

I’m pretty sure it’s referring to the oil pump pickup mesh filter in the sump. It’s the only mesh filter “assembly”. It’s item 16 in your oil pump diagram.

Also, this is what the best Ducati Master Tech in the US has to say about it: “…disregard we don’t need to do that anymore, they found out it’s a waste of time and effort”.

So, it doesn’t need to be replaced at all.

So #16 in that diagram is labeled as an oil strainer.

Can you ask your buddy to send you some pics of the procedure to remove or refit the 'engine oil mesh filter assembly'? I don't seem to have it in my service manual folder, there doesn't seem to be a PDF with that name.

There isn’t a specific procedure for it. It is shown in “Refitting the oil pump”. Access is by removing the oil sump.
