I spent over $400 just on shipping (receiving and returning) parts over the last 6 months so I am posting this in the hopes that it will make it easier for folks down the road. I’m am going to post it here cuz saying pm me if you are building one of these bikes is lame @KarlKani and I want to help all those in need, not just a select few
I find it wild that there are only 2 body styles for these bikes even tho they have been offered in many different displacements and models. Gonna label them early and late. It’s easy to determine which bodywork your bike has: early the mirrors attach THRU the windscreen - on the late model body they don’t. That’s where the easy ends and it gets complicated
How race bodywork (front fairing in particular) is gonna attach to the bike depends on which company you go with and has nothing to do with what years the company that manufactured it says it will fit. There are a lot of different styles of aftermarket stays for these bikes and many different ram air tubes as well. And ya can’t just mix n match. Then there is the IMU released on 2015 n up models to create more issues. And finally there is potential for clearance issues depending on which steering stem bushings you have and whether or not you are using a offset kit for the triple trees (clamps). The master cylinders will make contact with a motoholders 1299 stay if you have 24° rake kit for example. Even with zero offset. (Some bikes came 24° from the factory)
*yeah I started writing this a lil while ago and never finished it and now I need to post something else cuz I have a question so I’ll cut to the chase - IMHO the best fiberglass combo for the front is:
Armour Bodies 1299 front fairing
AB 1299 side fairings
Motoholders 1199 front stay. Here’s a pic
Motoholders 1299 air ducts
If you want race carbon -
Carbonin 1199 front and sides
Motoholders 1199 stay and 1199 ducts
*do not use the Carbonin mounting kit
That’s just for the early bikes. If yours has a IMU none of the above will work : )
