Barkeeper's Friend is a powder, like Ajax or Comet, but it's designed specifically for cleaning stainless steel. Notice how it changed the color of the muffler body from a coppery color to a color more appropriate to stainless steel. Not as much effect on the aluminum covers, but a distinct change to the body of the muffler!

while you have it out, send it over to me for a decent tune ;)

buffing wheel works fine, too!

"Barkeeper's Friend";)

What Cobra said....."Barkeeper's Friend". It's dirt cheap and that's literally just a BKF, a rag, water, and light rubbing. No elbow grease required for the most part. Very easy.

I had the mufflers off to tighten the bracket screws AGAIN. Notice one of the four screws is socket head rather than the OE hex head. I actually lost one screw before I noticed they were loose the first time. Apparently high temp Loctite didn't do the trick, so keep an eye on those little rascals!

If I have to take them off again that's exactly what I plan to do, Phil. I hate drilling bolt heads, but when it comes down to nut cutting time, it's better than dropping a muffler or cracking a pipe.

Here's what it is: Half baking soda half ajax or comet, mix thoroughly and then add 7up or Sprite (non diet!) to make a paste. Apply and let sit for a minute, rinse and admire results.
