Clear paint protection kits

This statement probably gets said a 1000 times on Ducati forums: If you spent the money on a Ducati, don't cheap out on stuff like this. Cheap film can make your expensive bike look like crap. I would ONLY use a self-healing film: Xpel, Suntek, or 3M. I got mine from thetankslapper. It takes skill to do a good job installing it and is an art if you want it perfect.

I agree it is hard to put on. I purchased the full tankslapper kit back in 12 or 13 when I got the 1199. Now dirt has got under the edges and it does not look as good. I really need to take it off and put some new stuff on. It has saved my paint a couple of times. Especially the lazy boot over the tail.

DO NOT USE 3M Film as when you remove it the glue residue sticks to your paint & nothing will remove it unless you use thinners etc which will stuff your paint. I had the 3M installed on my Desmosedici
by a certified 3M installer and after 5 years it was going yellow/brown so decided to remove the film. I did report my issue to 3M but they did not want to know. Had to re paint my Desmo so don't use 3M

I have full xpel wrap on my car and doing it on my ducati now. I've been really happy with xpel.

ive used both the xpel and the 3m.. where the paint is covered, it looks literally new.., where i didnt cover, (the upper fairing side extension on 1299) the paint has a thousand chips..

have it done locally by an expert that can give you a 5+ year warranty
It is great that there is a warranty. Do they re do it if dirt gets under the edges. I doubt anything can stop that unless they wrap each piece past the edges. Be great if they do that. Even the job I did has protected the covered pieces very well.

My 1299S had one put on by the previous owner. When I first purchased it at 722 miles it had already started to peel off slightly.

Anyone have some feedback on paint protection kits? This kits seems priced very well.

I bought this for my 959 Corse. Was pretty easy to apply, I did take my time at applying it and you can’t even hardly see that it’s on. I haven’t had it on there long enough to see how long it will last but my panel beater told me it looks like quite a good material and a professional finish

Thanks, I went with the cheap kit. If it doesn’t work out I’ll buy the pricy one

im in the market aslo looking for the clear film. especially since i have the corse. my fear is it messing up the paint underneath since its a flat paint....let me know how it goes.

I have always had my Ducs wrapped. Xpel is the leader these days, and will self heal. 3M is toilet, and they will not stand behind their product. Venture Shield was good, but 3M bought them. I have spoken with both Xpel and 3M's corporate offices regarding various issues. Xpel is more service oriented, and 3M will deny everything stating their product isn't supposed to ...xx..., but it does. You will be on your own if you go with a 3M clear bra/paint protection film and something happens.

Depending on how much you're going to have covered, my superbikes have been covered about 98-99% of the fairings, and I would recommend the installer not going all the way to the edge, and if there's and indent space like around a hole in the fairing, have the installer due 2 pieces instead of 1 piece. This will prevent air bubbles and lifting. All in all Xpel on my 1199S and now my 1299S has been the proper choice.

You will want to have the edge of the film not brought to the edge of the fairing, or you risk it lifting. The edges stay adhered pretty well, but if dirt does get under them, a q-tip and isopropal alcohol usually works to clean it up. Also, remember when wiping to go with the edge.

I just put an XPEL kit on mine and didn’t like the look so I pulled off the noses and front fender. I’ll probably put some on the tail just because my foot sometimes hits it.

Does anyone know if there is a V4 R/2020 V4 clear film protection kit available? I have looked and looked but have come up with bupkis so far. I could go the local route and have a expert installer do a bespoke, one-off film covering but that would be bejesus expensive.

Buy some a Scotch Blue and tape up the critical areas of your new V4 and drop it off with ur local expert

Without the tape, it will get rock chips and then it’s too late

have your detailer correct your brand new paint and install film on the critical areas. Have them polish / correct rest of your painted surfaces, windshield and lights and possibly wheels. then then them ceramic coat the rest.
Your brand new bike will look brand new for decades instead of
