Clutch Gear alignment

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

The access plug is on the clutch assembly side of the bike. If the bike has oils in it, it will come out of this hole. Remove the plug, using a flashlight, rotate the crank assembly until the pin notch can be seen through the hole. Inset the tool until it bottoms in that crankshaft groove.

This will lock the primary drive and allow you to install the basket. With the basket on the shaft, you will have to rotate it engaged on the small gear until sufficient pressure is achieved to overcome the springs then the teeth will line up and you can push the basket on.

Thank you and Forgive me if I’m not understanding, maybe I’ve been working too long on this project. Is this the plug I need to remove? Thank you so much. I wish I could show you a video of my project.

Hello again, Endodoc, is there a special way to place the clutch basket to align with the crank gears for timing purposes? Thank you

I hope not…

It ends up in a different place with every revolution of the crank : )

Glad it worked out. I think what Don was trying to say was that the orientation of the basket gear into the drive gear assembly has no bearing on timing. As long as you have full gearcengagement and the bushing is fully seated in the basket assembly, you’re done.
