Clutch Master Micro Switch: What Does it Do?

I just switched out the stock clutch master on my 2016 1299s that I just picked up for a Brembo RCS unit that I already had as a spare. I was switching out the clutch slave like I do on all my bikes and I figured that as long as I was breaking open the system, might as well upgrade the master too. There is no place to plug in the microswitch from the stock master, I know what it does on the brake side (actuate the brake light), what does the clutch side switch do? Do I need it? Can I tie it up out of the way? Chase it back and unplug it? Tape it so it thinks the lever is pulled in? Thanks for any and all information on this for this particular motorcycle.

It will allow you to start the bike while it’s in gear. You can replace it with a pressure type banjo bolt. I can’t remember with the xx99 platform if there’s any issues with deleting it outside of if you killed it at a stoplight you’d have to get into neutral to restart.

There is also a micro switch on the clutch side that ties into the quick-shifter, signaling to dis-engage when the clutch is pulled in. I'm chiming in do to a recent experience on my 21 V4S with the quick shifter not working part of the time, ended up being the micro switch!

This is what I was afraid of. Looks like the OEM clutch master is going back on, the RCS will get put on the old air cooled Multi. Thanks to all who replied, appreciate the help

I have 1299. You don’t need that switch. Especially true if you’re tuned. Mine has been disabled for years. Is handy to start in gear if you think you need that capability

Different electronics. What applies to the V4 doesn't necessarily carry over to the xx99 bikes.

It also changes some fueling. At idle engine can stall if switch is sensed as being in the incorrect position.

The switch has an impact on a few functions. It allows the bike to be started in gear and will deactivate the quick shifter. The switch tells the computer that the clutch is pulled in. I ran a separate switch when I installed the RCS so if needed I throw the switch manually. I forgot to turn the switch off once and the bike ran like .... as I was riding down the road in 2nd gear. Then I remembered it, switched it back and the bike ran fine.

Whatever you do, don't loop the switch making the bike think the clutch is always in so you can start it.
