Which carbon piece did you finally go with, on the heatshield? A link would be great, if you have one...

Cheers and thanks.

Ducati part#4601A121AA. Lots of people say they make a carbon shield that'll fit the 1299. But because the design is totally different, 1199/899 stuff won't fit. So the only way to be dead certain it'd fit was to get the actual Ducati part - for the 2015 Panigale R.

And it was a straight in PERFECT fit. The front screw had to be smaller IIRC but I had one lying around (or just make sure to order screw#77240268C along with the carbon heat shield). Haven't tried it with the passenger pegs and most likely never will; this is my personal monoposto bike. when my wife and I ride, we ride in the relative comfort of the trusty Multi GT.

It wasn't cheap ($390) but given the lack of reliable aftermarket options, as well as the actual quality of the OEM part, it was worth it.

Interesting and sorry to hear about your issue shilling. I have the stock header and a CW fender eliminator with Termi rear exit slip-ons and the same mileage with no issues yet just for comparison. In curios if this issue is isolated to 1299's. Let us know what you find out.

I will make sure I give you guys all details that I find out. Waiting for the new part to come in and for my warranty claim to be approved.

As I understand the emission laws in the US, anything that would effect the emission equipment, i.e the cat in this case is under emission warranty.

Untreated exhaust gas is escaping before the catalyst.

My header was replaced under warranty, no issues.
Thinking about it a bit more, I could tell something was off, a few days before the final catastrophic failure; the bike was making a loose, vibrating kind of sound, under deceleration; I thought it was a loose bolt or something and had been trying to find it for a day or two.

Cheers and glad yours was fixed...

Pictures..!! Catastrophic failure.

This is pretty catastrophic...

damn!!!
its got to be a bad batch of metal or something.
horrid
Either that, or a horrendous weld or something... I might have to pry my wallet open, shed a tear and spring for the full Akra system at this rate.. Being Scots, we are notoriously cheap, but this is the kind of thing that would warrant me paying obscene amounts for the Akra.

Let's hope this is a one off occurrence...

The weld looks to be done to hot or maybe wrong consumable for the pipe.

Can you take some macro photos of the weld and grain structure?

Sorry, that's all I have. The dealer gave the parts to the Ducati rep to take back and analyze.

The good news, is that my dealership got right on it and had the bike fixed and back to me in less than a week and they delivered my bike back to my house for me. Best dealership I have ever dealt with. Marin Speedshop.

If you do go for the Akra you are going to love it. So amazing just to look at. :D

Had that happen to my 999 track bike. Heard it start popping on decel and pulled in to the pits to see a crack about half way around the pipe at the weld like yours. I believe its a product of vibration and heat cycling and maybe the welding procedures.

I personally don't think my bike is lean or running hot. I could see a lean condition making the exhaust cracking worse though...
