Customizing 1299 S (vs.) 1299 SA

Hi all,

I've been considering a 1299 SA for a long time. I think it is absolutely gorgeous.
I'm now in a situation where I'm eyeing a 1299 SA with full Akra, but also a 1299 S with full Akra. Bikes are almost identical as far as miles, age etc.

As mentioned, both have full Akra systems, while the regular S has a few more aftermarket parts that I would most likely have bought anyway.
The regular S is ~$7,000 less, which obviously makes it very attractive.

Now for the questions.
For street use / canyon riding, how much would the magnesium wheels of the SA benefit me? (intermediate skills)

Although the SA is probably the most beautiful Ducati on the market in my opinion, and the regular, all red scheme a little boring to me, the prospect of personalizing the all red using decals to get a one-off-looking bike is very appealing to me. I'm not interested in replicating any of the official color schemes, but rather blending some of them, obviously without using any decals with "Anniversario", "Final Edition" or "R" written on them.

I am currently eyeing the following, and while looks are always subjective, I would like you thoughts on adding the following to an all red 1299 S, if you will:

Front:
1299 FE decal, White

Now, what I'd like to hear from each of you:
Thoughts on value of the SA vs. S in the scenario above?
Thoughts on adding the decals above to the all-red S?
Would you suggest other decals?
Do you know of any good vendors for decals?

I say if you like the more expensive of the two bikes better, just get that one. Otherwise you will always be wishing you had. I've used a few decals like the Ducati corse logo on my 1199, but it's not the same. Plus they aren't under the clear coat.

Get the bike you like more, you only live once right?

Wheels on anniversary and S are the same. Neither are mag.

Rim decals I hate that's why I de striped my S wheels
Ducati Corse side decal unless stock I've always hated

And if I didn't like the plain red it would be the 1299S with carbon/magnesium wheels then sent to a good automotive decal guy to weave some custom magic for something that doesn't look like a miss mash.

SA is a sweet sweet thing but 7000 is a lot of cash and unless it's very tech different, I don't see the sense if cash is not an abundant item.

I was certain the SA wheels were mag. Whaddayaknow.
It's definitely not that cash is restricting me to the S but at the same time I'm not gonna pay $7k if the only difference really is livery.

Additionally I will be moving to CA within about 3 months and the S is located in CA while the SA is located in NY. Also the all stock parts come with the S and not with the SA and the S is private whereas the SA is dealer - you know how that goes in regards to sales tax. Ultimately the difference will be closer to $10k, so I figure I'll probably go with the S. I believe that it doesn't matter what something costs, as long as you're not paying more than it's worth, and at the end of the day, the livery and engraved top yoke is not worth 10 grand to me.

Now - the bike was first registered in late 2016. I should be able to extend the warranty anytime before factory warranty expires, correct?

If you end up being local to me, I can introduce you to one of the premier graphics/vinyl guys in the greater LA area. He normally wraps supercars but does great bike work too.

That'd be amazing brother. I'd probably go anywhere in the LA area for that What area are you in? I will more than likely be somewhere close to LAX. Somewhere within the area if you draw lines from Santa Montica - Culver City - Inglewood - Redondo Beach.

I'll also need to pick your brain for a good mechanic.

I'm at the LA/Ventura County border, about 40 miles NW of LAX and 15 miles north of Santa Monica Mountains/Malibu Canyons. His name is Gino of Vaderworks, and he's about 10 minutes away from me. A lot of companies that use event cars (like Sony for example) bring cars to him. Based on your graphic ideas, I'm sure he'll be able to help you out.

Your location will put you central to no less than 4 Ducati dealerships including Ducati Westlake, Pro Italia, Beverly Hills Ducati, and Del Amo Motorsports (and Newport Beach a little further south).

I've done most of my own wrenching for my previous rides (Ducati's included), but certain things beyond my scope (I've never owned a Ducati Mathesis Tool, for example) I've had good luck with Pro Italia in the past. I recently picked up a Pani from Ducati Westlake, and they seem very good (conscientious) so far, but all they've done so far is the PDI. They have a brilliant master tech (D16RR certified etc) who is out on leave at the moment, but the other guys there seem to be quite good (according to a longtime friend of mine who works there). I'll give you details over a beer or espresso when you move out here.

Hello have you considered a 1199s Tricolre?
Also the SA came with Ackro slip-ons. It would be kind of odd for someone to swap out the slips for a full. But it would be possible if someone wanted to spend the extra $$$

I believe only the 1199 was made as a tricolore, no?

Yeah SA comes with slip-ons. The one in question has a full system.

Is he pricy? I've been lookin for someone to do a wrap job on my 1199 but the guy I had clear bra my dragster wanted like 4-500 for a wrap. Wasn't even a lot of material either. Anywho, I'm near culver city/palms area in west l.a.

To be honest, I don't know his pricing structure as I'm a bit traditional with my bikes. I'll talk to a buddy of mine who is tight with him and see if we can arrange a forum discount/group buy or something. He is located in Newbury Park, very close to Amgen if you know where that is.

Yes correct my bag typo 1199 tricolore is sweet color combo. One of my friends has one the colors just pop..
