Thinking Of Switching from 848 to V2

lol at the guys acting like the 1098/1198 was some benign machine. I'd take my chances w a V4 sans electronics first.

The V4 is more docile as delivered due to the ETV maps. There's is actually a viscous superbike motor living in there. Took me awhile to find it. When I got my SF I thot there must be some mistake as this must be a girl's version. I understand why they're mapped that way but the stock maps kill the character of motor. I find the 1198 easier to ride fast. It's lighter, has more grunt and has maybe the best tank/seat combination as delivered relative to moving around the bike. Ducati actually delivered both the 1098 and 1198 with inadequate acceleration fueling so they were less likely to pull unintended wheelies.

Yes, the 1198SP will try to kill you if you aren't 100% committed every time you ride it. I ....... love it! It is the only bike that I will keep until I die. If I get where I can’t ride, I’ll put it in my living room where I can look at it. Sex on wheels beauty…, and my first Ducati.

My V4SP is definitely a great bike, tuned with exhaust, but it still just isn't the Big Dog that is the 1198.

I have an 1198S so I totally agree. Just fun to ride, too much power all the time and will not suffer fools. I've been looking for a 1098R. BTW I have my 916 in the dining room. Beautiful thinks it was her idea. Jedi mind trick. The 1198's in all versions will become very collectable. 1198SP good choice.

Okay, you guys are getting a little silly. Most of the SFS/1098/1198 guys I knew had a tune and the suspension was obviously adjustable, so it was just a sportbike. Maybe an outrageous one at times, but all the control was still in your right hand. The V4's are better for tooling around town, but if that is your goal then you are missing the point.

To the OPs original point, I think this is the best time to get a V2. As someone pointed out in another thread the new engine is going to be smaller, and no doubt the riding sensations will become increasingly bland and even erased with more electronics. So now, take the current V2, add even more power and better suspension and unfortunately you have a better road going bike than the V4. Well, ducati can't have that, of course. Unless you are just up in the mountains with smooth twisties and big sweepers everywhere, then the V2 is already a better road bike than the V4. So get a low milage V2, and take your time setting it up how you like. Arrow slip on and OFT or Duessen, some sticky tires and you will have the cream of the crop. A tuned Bayliss is a lovely unit and they are under 20k.

Do you guy remember The Pace, by Nick Lenatsch. I mean, what is a guy trying to do on the road, especially as we get older. 30-90mph, momentum in the corners, but no more pegging it between them. What an enjoyable way to ride. Real life is all V2 territory. You're not going fast enough to need electronic intervention. You want to feel everything. I'd get a V2 and just slowly turn it into your hearts desire.
