Dear Members

I wish you all a happy new year!
Wow! This year, my first Panigale has its 7th Anniversary! I can not believe how fast time passes.

There are some plugs in the cylinder head (shown in attached picture). I want to replace them with titanium parts which are securable with safety wire.
Ducati Part Number is 78010511C (actually you'll find this plug from version A to E).

I've found 10 of these plugs on the Panigale V2 Engine (1199/1299 etc). No clue about the V4 :-(
But these plugs are also used on all modern Testastretta engines: On my M1200S there are 16 plugs installed.

Please let me know if somebody is interested in a set of plugs.
The more orders I get, the cheaper manufacturing gets.

I sent the blueprint of the newly designed plug to two different manufacturers.

As always: it's a non-profit project.

Cheers

I'm in but I'm not to thrilled about safety wire holes. I tried to get Podium to make these but never got a response from them. I also prefer black DLC if that's even possible. All my hardware is black titanium except for the Gecko studs. [emoji6]

Cool, thanks.
I designed the plugs in a way that I can change them on the lathe to return them to their original design. So, no problem for you to get them without securing holes...
About DLC coating: sorry. It's just not possible to do this due to the very low total amount of pieces to be produced.

Thanks guys!
I just received a first manufacturing offer. Price per piece will be around USD 4.20
The problem to be solved is the depth of the allen key hole. Maybe I have to consider torx but I have to check...

endodoc - 40 pcs
RetardedTiming - 10 pcs
mordor - 20 pcs

Okay, just checked with the manufacturer.
Unfortunately he can't make extra deep hex holes. Also he can't make it torx for a feasable price. So I decided to redesign the plug with a low profile outer hex head (13mm). The plug's head would be 2mm higher than OEM. Please see attached sketch. I'll get back to you guys when I received another offer....

endodoc - 40 pcs
RetardedTiming - 10 pcs
mordor - 20 pcs
Speedhaus - 30 pcs
Rogue - 10 pcs

I’d love to grab a set.

However,? I do have a dumb question. What is on the other side of the plugs (oil passages or coolant passages?)? In other words, do I have to drain or remove anything to replace the plugs?

Thanks.

Do you think much of a weight saving? Are the OEM heavy?
They look substantial from the image.

Ohh by the way I'm in for 1 set also.

Okay. I just placed the order and payed for it. Production will take about 4 weeks. So you should get your plugs at the end of February :)

@irockidd: Nope, you don't have to draing the engine. There's a bit of engine oil on the "other side" of the plug.
@able duc: OEM is not really heavy. You'd safe only a couple of grams. I'd say it's going to be weight neutral with installed safety wires/cables.

@able duc: you don't have to wire them. OEMs are actually loctited (but I am not really a fan of glueing Ti bolts into Aluminium holes)

I wouldn't use a titanium bolt in aluminum or titanium holes without Ti-Prep or something similar to prevent galling.

Project Update

Manufacturing is completed :)

Just made a test installation. Overall weight savings is mind blowing 26g :D
But the plugs look great and can be secured.

Material is Titanium Grade 5 (6Al-4V).

I'm very busy right now, so I need some time to prepare your packages.

Cheers
