DDA experiences so far...

Thanks. Usefull pictures in that thread to !

I really really like the idea of something incorporated into the bike to collect all this information :) .

I used the DDA and GPS a few days ago at Thunderhill Raceway. I liked the immediate info available from the lap timer without the need to do anything but set the start/finish line one time. Later, analyzing the laps I discovered a useful feature,,,which was the exact point on the track where DTC is utilized and by how much (although I don't yet understand the scale being used). I found this to be very useful as well as the expected data regarding speed and rpm at each point on the track. I can't get the knack of lap comparison yet, but hoping Ducati or Prosa will improve their education tools for those of us new to this technology.

Do NOT leave the module connected to the bike!!!

Just had my battery replaced (under warranty Luckily) as after leaving it on there for about 4 days it was completely dead.

Delta.

What battery did you have in it? Stock?

I had a LiFePO4 and it killed it. Won't be covered under warranty.
My dealer is trying to tell me it died because it was an aftermarket battery.

If you tell them Ducati did not mention that leaving the DDA module connected to the bike would 'damage' the bike by draining the battery you may have a case... :).
It should not damage it, even if you put an after-market battery in it.

Rhino, I had the stock battery. So def not the batteries fault.

A few people have had similar issues so it's not an isolated case. I think on the first page there is a link to another topic with people it also happened to. If need be print the threads out and take it to your dealer to show him this is relatively common.

And yes what Hakosuka said also. They can't go randomly giving us new batteries every time we leave it plugged in. But certainly they should have warned us about it. So if no body told you and it happend then they should fit a new one, once!

Its the bomb! Very cool on track day, although it just shows how ...... and inconsistent I am. :D Must be the GPS signal ;) Seriously very cool kit if you are serious on the track. Give a good amount of information as a standard piece of equip.

Used it at sears point trackday yesterday. Just the timer. Still figuring how to download info from the DDA. Proso website not user friendly. Any tips?
Kinda cool to see time and top speed and max rpm.
Had one big slide at the rear so would be nice to know if tc kicked in!

I would think this can be addressed with a software update, since the ECU's are obviously doing something, rather than sleeping with the key installed.

Question...

The DDA module has about 16gig of storing space right ?
How do you start the data-recording? Does it record as soon as you start the bike or does is it triggered by the laptimer?

Hi guys,

hoping that this might help:

  • DDA + key (that comes with 1199 Panigale) has 16 MB of memory.
  • if you read the manual, you will notice that DO NOT leave DDA plugged when it's not used, even on bike in key off. If you leave the DDA plugged, it will drain your battery within 5-10 days: the reason is that the DDA still listen to data also when your bike is off. This happens only on Panigale and is a design choice (it's not a DDA issue). GPS module IS NOT powered when bike is off.
  • DDA software version 3 for DDA+GPS is available at this link [DDA Web Support: Home page] under "Download" section. You need to register to access to that section. Be careful: if you own a DDA with firmware version less than 3 (a DDA that has been purchased before 1 January 2008) you have to download the older software version 2.
  • DDA software version 3 is also available for OSX
  • To download DDA data to your computer simply download and install the software (it will automatically install the right driver for your architecture) and then connect the DDA, then follow the instructions on screen.
  • DDA 1199 Firmware update for analog extension is available only for Windows.
  • In your 1199 If the “DDA” writing is displayed on the instrument panel, it means that the device is active and thus recording; If the “GPS” writing is displayed on the instrument panel, it means that the device is in correctly acquired position and the satellite reception is active; To allow the automatic identification of the “Start/Stop” upon each lap, it is necessary to memorise the first time the bike crosses the finish line by pressing the suitable button.
  • If you experience any difficulties in using the software (that's designed to be as simple as possible), there's a help online guide. Open a run and then press F1 button.

Thanks,

Marco

Great post Marco ! This might be good for a sticky on the DDA?

After turning on the ignition, you must go into the menu and select the DDA option and turn it on in order to have it start recording. It will record laps automatically at that point as long as you've set the GPS position of the start/finish line using the "Flash To Pass" button on your left-hand switch housing the first time you're at a different track. Note that the DDA is automatically disabled again when you turn the ignition off, so if you want to record every track session you must turn it back on every time you turn the ignition on. The lap timer function, however, is automatically activated every time so there is no need to manually turn it on. It will only record a certain number of laps in the memory though, so if you want to review a "clean" track session you must clear the lap timer memory before going out onto the track using the menu's LAP option, and then "Erase All".

Are you the system integrator from Ducati who goes with the name Marco?

Well I did a test overnight.

I left the dongle attached and took a number of readings last night, and one just now this morning.

The stock battery is back in.

In the first hour, it dropped .046 of a volt. At that per/hour rate, it would drop 7.73 volts in a week. Definitely enough to stop it cranking.

But, then it dropped to .01 p/h consistently until the next morning, which would NOT flatten the battery in a week.
That's only a 1.68v drop, and still enough juice to start the bike.

Maybe the LiFePO4 IS more susceptible.
But those numbers aren't strong enough to go back with.

I just downloaded the software to see what it's like, but you can't even open it without loading data.

Does anybody have any sample files they have offloaded from their DDA system?

Yeah, have some... Pm me your email and I shoot them over

Also, I will have my dda up for sale soon

Hi guys, I started another thread earlier in the week because I wasn't seeing the GPS map data when I downloaded the data files to the App.

I've just found a screen shot in the help section of the App that shows a separate GPS channel which I am not getting when I load the data into the App.

It's odd because the GPS is definitely working as it shows GPS on screen and it automatically started and stopped the lap timer every time I went past the start/finish position on track.

Anyone experienced this?
