Only you know what's right for you. I bought a 2020 V4S for exactly the same reason - 63 next month, my first ever sportbike and first Duc. It's brilliant. But I did keep my VFR and last weekend took it for a ride after a month on the Duc. I realised I had never appreciated how the Honda soaks up the bumps. Really glad I kept it. Ultra-glad I bought the V4S.
The factory tuono v4 is amazingThere is just something about being on a sport bike. I thought I could give it up and had a S1000r for a bit, but it got traded in on a 19 V4S. I do have a KTM 1290 for longer rides, but considering getting a Tuono myself for some backroad hooligan rides (these are 350+ mile day rides, which are a bit much for me on the V4S). The KTM is great on these, but sometimes I just want more
Cheers I think pani it isI actually just shook up my stable regarding the same decision.
I had a Super Duke R, but was ready for a change and the prototype SF in the black/white colorway hooked me, then the media with it in red and I put a downpayment. Went to two different SF launch parties and looked at the Pani and SF side by side and got the Pani.
I'm 6'4" 200ish and 47 years old and done multiple 150+ days in the Texas countryside, as much as there is near Houston.
Here is the big caveat and what made me choose the Pani other than looks... my BMW R1250GS is so damn good at doing everything other than being a sportbike that anything less than a sportbike would be overlap and kind of a waste of money. And honestly, I had no problems showing up some 170hp+ bikes at the "Twisted Sisters" in Leakey TX on it. So it carves well enough to be fun if we take multi trip days and don't want to trailer our bikes.
**EDIT**
I should also note, the only two sportbikes I found comfortable for my size are the Pani and the H2. I've not made any seat/peg/bar position changes yet.
Yes like i said i waited back in 2015 for my 1299, I dont mind waiting at this time of year! The SF has a sold sticker on it as does the Anniv. But, although these bikes are usually pre-ordered months in advance of them hitting the showrooms, sometimes buyers have financial hiccups and have to cancel. That was certainly the case when the Corona lockdown put so many out of work and was why I had no wait on a 2020 V4S that had just arrived. You can be lucky. But a bit of waiting is not bad, builds the excitement.
