I'm sure everyone has seen the email and been to the site, but let's just group all the relevant specs together so we can wrap our heads around this new engine:

Displacement: 1,103 cc
Bore: 81mm
Stroke: 53.5mm
CR: 14:1 (!!)
Counter rotating crank (sounds pretty sweet)
Power: 210 hp*
Torque: 88.5 lb-ft.*
*numbers from engine dyno
Looks like redline is going to be around 14,000 rpm

In summary, the 1299R FE is looking pretty darn good right now. It has the same power, >10% more torque, and is inevitably going to be lighter. Not to mention, even if you don't like the looks of the FE, you have to admit it is better than the monstrosity of the V4 from what we have seen so far.

The only question that remains is where will the V4 be priced.

All this considered, who have put deposits down to be the guinea pigs?
 
I have a deposit that was for the FE which I don't like then moved over to the V4. That is quickly developing into a deposit on the Scrambler cafe racer given what we have seen and if it is to be believed.

Incidentally, what was the weight of the 2015 Panigale R engine? The V4 is just shy of 65 kg.

2kg more than the Superquadro engine apparently. A good deal more once you add the porky monocoque, subframe and bodywork of the V4 Fatigale!

On the basis that these images are accurate representations of the finished article I WILL NOT be purchasing a V4. If, on the other hand, Ducati have played a master stroke in deception and it turns out to be a swan as opposed to an ugly duckling (Nov 7th folks), then I'll reserve judgement.
 
Would seem that at street level at least, the dumping of the V2 heritage has given
the bike no progress at all. A couple of hp, reduction in torque and heavier with it,
not to mention the questionable styling exercise for roll out.

Hopefully the forthcoming R powerplant has a bit more up its sleeve, otherwise what
the hell was the point. They would have better off just tweaking the existing street bike
to help with any new emission/noise regs as they came along. Racing wins are nice
to add to the family history, but not the sole reason for the bike to exist.

I'm disappointed they decided to go with a cheater motor for the V4 and pump the cc's up to 1100. Other than that I might be down.

How is that different than what Aprilia did? Their Tuono is 1100 where the RSV4 is 1000cc
 
We all know the engine will be fine.
The looks are the problem. No matter how good the engine, if it looks like the pics we have a problem.

Well, Tuono is a complete different bike than the RSV4. All RSV4:s is still 1000cc. If Ducati made a 1100cc V4 streetfighter and left the sport bike with a 1000cc engine then that comparison would be equal.

This is more in line with what Ducati started 3 years ago, to build a bigger 1299 model for base and S models and keep the Race legal R still with the 1198cc engine.

The Tuono is a naked standard that it tuned for torque and does not put out as much power as the RSV4. The Ducati, whatever their going to call it is a superbike. A 4cyl superbike should be 1000cc like the rest of them. They are making it easy to compete in power with the rest of the bunch of superbikes, then will build the R with the 1000cc for homoglation rules. I'm not hatin, but the extra cc has other implications like the when you go to insure the thing.

And, it's a money grab.

i was initially thinking the exact same thing, but remember, this is the street base and S version of the bike. the R homologation version will be less than 1000 cc in order to compete. they will introduce the R version a year later, like they have been doing.

And, they adjusted the timing so it would fire and run like a twin. So what was the point of a V4.
