What do you guys think of the Dion device? Break guard levels in general?

Just about every Mod on my bike is about safety and protection. That being said, I want to know your thoughts and/or experience with the Dion device in particular (compared to nothing and compared to other brake lever guards).

Obviously Moto GP uses them to prevent one racer from accidentally bumping another racer's break lever. But how about for those of us who aren't usually that close to other guys on the track or the street? Some say that the Dion device can take the brunt of a right-sided Fall. They say it can protect your clutch case in skid/slide.

Chandler at Nu Concepts Audio in California (& internet, I guess) was selling me on them. Sure, he's a dealer, but he also uses one on his bike. Before I spend a few hundred bucks on break or clutch levers, I want to make sure it's actually money well spent for mostly Street riders like me.

Opinions/experience?

I think it is an interesting device and have thought of putting the guards on my bike as well. But I an a street rider. Hoping to get some track time in this year as well and have been looking at a lot of prevention items.

I use the Rizoma guards and they fit and work well on the Pani. They're designed only to prevent accidental bumping. Although I doubt any lever guard is going to provide any real protection to the bike in a crash or tip over as the clip-on will break with any real impact.

As for whether or not it's worth it for street riding, if you're a commuter and/or constantly splitting lanes it may make sense. Again, very doubtful your brake lever would hit a car mirror but for 73 euro on Carpimoto...why not?

I bought it for the 1199 Ducati and it DOES NOT FIT!!!!!!

In what way does it not fit? Not enough room in between starter housing & grip? Won't fit around the bar? Doesn't fit over the brake lever?

What model Panigale do you have? Do you have stock clip ons or race clip ons?

Won't ride on the track without one,
especially after seeing Rapp go over the bars back in the day,
after Kockinski contacted the lever I think...

Might as well let the other guys in on the Dion device discussion, if that's okay, George. Seems like the valuable enough discussion, IMHO.

Do you still have your Dion device? If you do, Are you willing to part with it? How much?

returned it, why would I keep it if it didn't fit?

Cuz a lot of internet companies aren't that nice, to refund your $ for non-defective returns.

Anyway, my Dion dealer says he thinks he can get it to work. He says if you can't get it to fit on the stock clip on, it should work on the longer race clip ons. I guess we'll see. What do you think?

By the way, what did you say the problem was, not enough room between the grip, starter housing, and flyby wire housing? Or something else?

I paid via paypal, and had to make a claim. Do not trust them.

I understand. Fortunately, my guy has one installed on his bike, so I might be able to test it out before committing.

So...what was the problem, not enough room between the grip, starter housing, and flyby wire housing? Or something else?

exactly - did not fit...

So, it turns out that the Dion device can work with the Panigale. All you need is aftermarket clip ons (I think most race clip ons are slightly longer then the stock clip ons). They give me just enough room to put the Dion device on.

Besides, the aftermarket clip ons end up being the same price as the adapter that our stock--threaded--clip-ons require if you're you putting on the Oberon turn signals.

When my bike is finished, I'll try to post pics of all this.

The woodcraft ones won't work with the woodcraft stock clip ons, which are not long at all. I should have picked up the extended length ones, as I'm out of space.

Something I've considered, for the track it makes sense, but also for lanesplitting....

True, Antihero, lanesplitting may be a little tighter, but when all is said and done, the clip on only sits about 1/4 inch farther out. Besides, if all you need is a few millimeters, you can chop off that extra 1/8" from the longer clip ons.

Old thread but thank you for letting me know if I order a on off kill switch from moto wheels il have enough clearance!

I installed the Dion device on my Tri, just because I am fond of any kind of bling stuff.

If you're planning to keep your OEM clipons, you'll have to buy or make a smaller start/stop switch (there are plenty different products available).
I had to cut out a small part (about 1/3" x 1") of the front fairing to get enough clearance!

Iv tried a few different models out there including this, this is the Rizoma Race Pro-guard. It bolts inside the clip-on with the correct thread adaptor.

As requested by zohsix01, I'll made two pictures of the Dion thingy on my Tri.

You did a very nice job cutting that CF. Looks like it was manufactured that way, Gecko.

thanks for the compliment. yep, it ought to look factory :)

arrgh... i paid 300 bucks for the device.

one thing I'd like to mention: IMHO from a functional standpoint of view, the device is great.

If it comes to bling factor: they should provide nicer screws. Especially the one for the swing stop should be polished at the bottom, otherwise it scratches away the anodised surface.
