Do all aftermarket master cylinders require new switches?

Hi gang,

I am thinking of possibly doing some modest upgrade on my brakes. I like a bit more initial bite out of my front brakes. I am not sure which way to go. My Bayliss V2 is already shiny enough, and I am not after more bling, so I will take whatever works, whether it is pads, calipers, or MC.

From what I have seen so far, the RSC 17 requires new switchgear because the lever touches. How about the RSC 19? (though perpahs it means new calipers with larger pistons -- I've had one on my BMW and it was vicious) Or perhaps something else? I really do not want to start changing buttons just to accommodate a new MC.

If I keep the stock MC, will new calipers give me that stronger bite?

How about pads?

I ride street. Once a year a track day (slow B).

Thanks!

I answered my own question. I installed a pair of Brembo SR pads, and they gave me the feel and bite I was looking for. Braking is still smooth and controlled, but I can feel them gripping the rotor more tightly, and the initial slowdown is more immediate. With that I think I am done with the brake upgrades.

For reference, there was another post here whereas the poster merely rotated the throttle housing to allow it to clear with a RCS. It would require drilling the bars though.

I read that post. While practical, it didn't look right to me.

I contemplated how to tackle this issue as well since I had wanted to try new RCS Masters as well. I eventually did get there with having to get new controls but kinda went the “long way” and went in the following order of trying out different components to find the answer—

Upgraded Brake Pads for stock Calipers ->
Brembo Stylema Calipers ->
Upgraded Brake Pads for new Calipers ->
Brembo RCS Master Corsa Corta (w/ controls) ->
Brembo Supersport 330mm Rotors ->
then threw on brake-ducts for good measure since they only work with the larger 330mm rotor

All in all, it was pretty damn pricey but what isn’t with these bikes.. But my brakes do feel absolutely amazing now and is a real game changer in terms of what the bike can do and more importantly the confidence boost in what I feel like I can do.

Lastly, just to share my own experience and opinion, I would attribute the following figures to add up to 100% of the improvements felt:

RCS Master — 35%
Calipers — 25%
330mm Rotors — 20%
Brake Pads — 10%
Correctly bleeding out the brakes — 8%
Brake Ducts — < 2%
