Do I really need a swingarm protector?

alright, got it installed and now I have peace of mind ;)

installation was a bit fiddly as it is a snug fit, and....I've had the DP rear hugger on since I got the bike. I vaguely remember it containing some kind of spacer to be used if the swingarm protector, but who knows where that piece is now. It fit fine without spacers....?

it's also not too overwhelming in terms of carbon fiber, although there is quite a bit back there. I've probably hit the limit of how much carbon you can have in good taste....

anyways, if anyone has a picture of the spacer that comes with the DP rear hugger, and possibly an explanation of why this part is absolutely critical, I'd appreciate the information.

I just completed a Shift Tech swing arm cover install and ran into the same thing - although I DID have the spacer they supplied with their hugger. So as I see it the function is this..... The swing arm cover and hugger both attach in the same place on the front two mounting points therefore are double thick when mounted together. The left upper mounting point on the hugger is not and could be over stressed when you tighten the fastener. With the spacer it keeps all 3 of those essentially level and stress free. I can see how with just a little flex in the hugger it would still cinch down just fine so probably is not hyper critical.

The spacer is just a black plastic bushing a few mm thick - roughly the same thickness as the carbon pieces themselves. Didn't take a pic - sorry.

Glad I could offer some perspective.

Let me know how it goes on those rotor bolts. I'm getting another package from Podium on Monday which will include those along with a gaggle of other little things. We seem to be on similar paths.....

well, I bought a propane torch today to heat the bolts. Probably unnecessary but I'm feeling paranoid about stripping anything; I've stripped enough bolts this summer already!!
