Does the 16r have Ti exhaust valves?

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

based on the parts catalog, the numbers differ, so that would lead to the assumption that they are different, just not sure if steel/titanium different:

base Inlet: 21020811B, Outlet: 21110801C
R inlet: 20111061A, Outlet: 21111051A

i've read that they're not titanium despite the literature saying it is.

I believe someone else with a R also mentioned they're not titanium and paid to remove the head and add in titanium exhaust valves

the ducati akra exhaust is not worth the money the akra evo exhaust is a better system and its cheaper but it doesnt say dp on it so you know the "purists" will have a fit over it

we're not talking about exhaust systems, the OP is asking about the metal used for the exhaust valves in the head

Only the SL has intake and exhaust ti valves

Not true - as per the Ducati website - 2015/16 R model bikes do in fact have Intake & Exhaust Valves in Titanium - different part numbers might be a hint, but the price would be another clue....

I suspect we will need full confirmation, other than the web site

The rods are Ti as well- I am pretty certain you can trust Ducati to know what's in their own engine :)

Lightweight racing engine
The Panigale R features an incredible 1198cc Superquadro engine which adopts the most advanced racing-derived features available. A precision-balanced lightweight crankshaft, two-ring Superbike pistons, titanium valves and connecting rods, and extreme camshaft profiles result in a 205 hp output with immediate, aggressive power delivery. Homologated for use as Ducati's platform in World Superbike, the Panigale R's Superquadro is the closest thing available to a dedicated race engine - but incredibly, offers the same generous warranty and long maintenance intervals as the rest of the bike.

My understanding from what I've read and also speaking with the Panigale Project Manager at Silverstone (left Ducati now but still on here) was that the lack of Titanium exhaust valves was the main difference between the R and the SL engines?

If we are talking 15/16 model year: A precision-balanced lightweight crankshaft, two-ring Superbike pistons, titanium valves and connecting rods,

The 16R actually DOES have stainless exhaust valves... They are NOT Ti.

Bummer. Got some coming to do a swap though.

...A precision-balanced lightweight crankshaft, two-ring Superbike pistons, titanium valves and connecting rods,...
Ducati's description is grammatically correct. It "has" Ti valves although it is a misleading, generalized statement. If you read "between the lines," it does not specify "both" intake and exhaust valves are Ti...and simply chose not to "mention" it also has SS valves for the exhaust ports.
