Hi everyone,

i was wondering if other people experienced a similar issue:

It's the DQS - quickshifter. It's now broken again for the 5th time in one year, although I just got my baby back two weeks ago after being in service for 6 weeks - which is insane and another story.

Anyway, engine warning lights came on again, gearbox cranked loud and I am was forced to ride home and manual shift every time. Which isn't bad but with a bike in that price range I was really hoping for a successfully product. I am worried to even keep the bike. Definitely getting the extended warranty.

It's just so frustrating. Anyone had a similar experience? I live in South Beach / Miami. Where the weather is hot and during summer we get a lot of rain. But that shouldn't be the case?

5x??????

I have 13k miles on my 1199, ride all year in all weather, been on the track, the strip, etc...

Not one shift missed...

Yeah, how is ot breaking? You mean it electronically stops cutting ignition? Or is the shift rod physically breaking in half?

Breaking = damaged components and malfunction of the quick-shifter. The service department only mentions the replacement of the quick-shifters. I will drop it off tomorrow and will update what particular is broken.

However, it's now the 5th time that the exact same part needs to be replaced. I think that's something very strange.

I think you are one of the first to have this much of an issue with DQS.

If it is physical...I think you can easily take a pic yourself.

After the first break, I would take a pic and keep a record...

That is very, very strange. I've only had an issue with mine once, and that was when the shift rod backed out.

I am curious to know what exactly is breaking and how it broke 5 times.

Aftermarket rearsets?

I feel like i could tangle up my transmission if i used the dqs in stop and go traffic, or if I tried to clutchless shift at slow speeds with neutral throttle input on an upshift , or with a limited engine drag- downshift.

after having ridden the bike for a while it seems like the dqs will only work properly above 5k and in a hard to describe way it seems like the DQS was designed to be used only under load accelerating or decelerating .

I think people think there is a servo motor inside the transmission that moves the gears into place like paddle shifters on a car. I also think people mistakingly think the DQS is a way to relieve the burden of having to pull in the clutch. It is in fact made to shave seconds off of a lap time. not to feed our lazy nature .

I mean no offense to the OP , but Incase he thinks the DQS is a luxury accessory for the bike like heated grips- It may help him in the future to know the real way this system works and what it was intended for .

Only issue I've ever had with the DQS is when I'm shifting up under hard acceleration and every now and then the bike will kick into to neutral then go into gear. Under hard acceleration say from 3rd to 4th and sometimes it hangs up and the gear indicator on the screen jumps from 4th to N to 4th. I've got right under 3k miles and it has happened a few times.

I use the DQS a lot on the track since the engine break helps to enter the corner quicker. For city traffic I mainly use the clutch, however these two system seem to work together too much for me. I may just leave DQS on for the Race mode and turn it off for Sport.

Got the bike back. First of all thanks for all the nice comments. After speaking to the techs I feel much relieved. It was a connection problem with the digital switches/cables. Seems the part was breaking on my bike constantly. They removed a new part, with an entire new part number, from a new bike and asked me to test it out. Attached is the image of the broken part. They said they are baffled too. So no mechanical error since day 1. I was already doubting my abilities :)

My quick shifter broke on me yesterday. Was working the morning and then when I left work it just didn't want to work so I started using the clutch, but then the engine warning came up.

I'm not very confident in Ducati at the moment as I've had the head gasket blow on 2200km and now the quick shifter (Electronics)
Also having major starting issues when cold so they have escalated this to the factory.

The stock QS unit on our bikes uses average parts at best and is sloppy.
Switched to the Translogic unit a few months ago and it is a huge improvement.
The TL unit uses a Load Cell instead of cheap Microswitches and that makes it very precise. Also the build quality is far superior to the factory unit.
No plastic bits. The main unit is machined from titanium, the body is billet aluminum and the ends are stainless.
Product support from TL is excellent and Andy is very helpful should one feel the need to call or email him. Also they ship very quickly. 2 days from Great Britain to US.

Ditto to phil !!

Luckily, mine has ALWAYS worked well for me, but then again I never ride the poor thing!
Only issue I had while riding with Mark419NY was the Linkage Rod from my Ducabike Rear Sets came off - anyone with these better Loctite the hell out of ALL the nuts and bolts on those Rear Sets for sure!

The one thing I wanted to ask you David - is whether or not you are using "GP Shift Technique" or the "Standard" method man? Not that I would think that matters or not, but who knows- crazier things have happened man? Being a 1299 I would assume all of these have been covered by Warranty too correct man? (If that was written anywhere in here I missed it, sorry.

Best wishes to you getting this irritation problem corrected once and for all David! I can't even think of how you limped it home by shifting the bike "Manually" either?

I've had problems with the QS being unreliable on both my older 1199S and my new 1199R. Doesn't break, just stops working avery so often on track. It's like it gets hot and something expands or shifts or something.

The stock QS rod/electronics are sloppy at best. I had a Bazzaz system that was more functional than what comes on these $30k machines.

I swapped out the stock microswitch rod for the Translogic plug and play direct replacement and it seems to have made a huge difference (I also changed rear-sets, which I'm sure played a part as well..).

The TL strain gauge is much more sensitive, which leads to a "quicker" and more "precise" feeling while using the up/down DQS. It's nice because you can simply unplug and remove the stock one and simply replace and plug back in to the stock harness/connector.

Translogic Part #TLS-DCS-PAN-FF-140

I fully agree TransLogic is top notch, it took only a day from the UK to reach me:) (neighboring country).
But be aware of the fact that the "blip pressure" and "kill pressure" are fixed, however via Tuneboy you can adjust the "kill time". The TL strain gauge quickshifter is really plug and play, I use it in combination with black Ducabike rear sets.
