Correct me if I'm wrong...but the quick shifter is designed for full throttle/near full throttle, high in the rev range clutchless shifting, correct?

Found this about the DQS on the 1198SP:

"Making its debut on the SP is the DQS quick-shifter, which enables full-throttle clutchless upshifts. It cuts spark for just 80 milliseconds, whereas a typical racer cuts power for 200 or more."

And the description on the Ducati site:

"The Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) is the electronic system that manages the gearbox and is used in competitions. It allows the gear to be engaged on acceleration without the use of the clutch and while maintaining the throttle open. The feature enables the rider to gain precious fractions of seconds, helping to considerably reduce lap times."

The reason I bring this up is it seems some of the new owners out there are talking about false neutrals using the DQS which makes sense. I think your bike is telling you to cut it out and use the clutch. Since it cuts power for 80 milliseconds, running it up and using the quickshifter at 6k RPMs on break in is not doing your transmission any favors.

I agree, I believe I would only use it on full throttle near redline upshifts.
All the other times, a little clutch and ease out of the throttle.

Chris

I have a feeling that all these electronics are turning people into bad riders.

agreed...I think these guys are getting false neutrals due to them hessitating or NOT kickin the lever through its FULL stroke. I suggest guys who are having this problem need to make small adjustment to their shifter rod/ lever angle.

For 1, I've always upshifted without the clutch on any bike I've riden agressively...You dont need the quick shift feature to do this, tho if not equipt with QS its wise to let off the throttle very minimal as you kick up gear lever or down if in reverse configuration.

infact if you know your motorcycle very well you can even downshift with out the clutch by bleeping the throttle as you down shift...no real advantage to this, I've just found my self doing it over the yrs and gotten real smooth with it lol.

I don't intend to use it unless I'm at least 80% throttle.

You can get a false neutral using the clutch.

They need to learn how to use their feet betterer.

I ride a CBR1000RR with a DynoJet QS and love the thing to death, but even with the ignition cutoff set lower for street riding you can still get crappy 1st to 2nd gear changes. I find alot of it has to do with short shifting, or clicking up but not really pushing all the way through to second. The other is any time you use the QS for shifts that arent aggressive, as in you arent really accelerating all that fast, so the ignition cut out doesnt really have much unloading to do. I've learned to only use QS 1st-2nd when I'm really ripping it. Any other QS gear change seems fine. I know its not Ducati's QS but the principle is the same.

Hell before I got the QS for my CBR I still did clutchless upshifts...just not quite as quickly as the electronics do it ;)

That's a good point.

I clutchless shift a lot. Up and down.

Will be interesting to see if anything changes.

When my Hyper was brand new, false neutrals were quite common. After 5k km it was flawless.

I'd give the tranny some time to adjust. Btw, lowering the shifter really helps.

There is so much stupid here now! If Ducati says this should be running as it should surely have it then? if there are errors after this one can complain! not before!
DQS, smoke, etc.

sorry guys but all this new rider stuff is crap
As explained in my previos comments on the other thread I have used a quick shifter on the BM for the last 3 years without ANY false neutrals

And yeterday I went out a pushed over 7k and still had a problem

I would wait until you have your bikes before passing judgement

I have my bike parked safely in my garage I! and it works great if you are determined and allows the engine to work easily

Totally agree. This isn't a "new" rider issue. I ride a K1300s daily and never had a problem with quick shifter. The 1198 system was pretty poor in comparison to the 1199. So youre comparing apples with oranges.

Maybe people should wait until first services are all out of the way before passing judgements on complete strangers ability to ride a bike.

I wasn't attacking you......you obviously aren't a new rider.

I'm just saying in general. There's already a thread from some Russian Retard wanting to buy the 1199 as his first bike.

Hopefully for his own sake the Russian insurance companies will just laugh it off. Reminds me of when I was 19 and got an insurance quote for £19,999 on a 10 year old Golf GTI....think they were trying to tell me something!

Russia is pretty free of intelligence when it comes to those sorts of things. Watch any youtube video of how those idiots drive in that country. Future road crayon.

Back to the DQS issue though, I've never had one but I'd imagine that if it's only designed to work perfectly on full(ish) throttle and near the rev limiter then it makes testing that theory a little worrying....I wouldn't really want to hit a false neutral with the throttle wide open 500 revs from the red line....

Who's gonna be first to try?? Anyone getting close to finishing their running-in?
