bautista said that he owes MM dinner for his qualifying time.
Its not the first time he has done it... He seems to do it quite often.

Rossi never been good at Qualifying. Look at his wins vs qualifying stats. Others like Lorenzo and Pedrosa is almost even but Rossi is significantly different.
+1 to this, Rossi has never been a qualifier, his qualifying vs win stats are quite unusual. So many wins, so few poles as opposed to most other riders that are relatively equal on those fronts, or at least similar.
I wonder how Stoner would do with the new qualifying system as well. If I remember correctly, typically someone else would sit atop the timing sheet for most of qualifying, then near the end of the session he'd come back out and lay down a blistering time when he got a clear track and everyone thought the grid was pretty much set. I wonder if he'd have the same problem as Rossi.
And Bautista is an annoying genius following MM for that tow lap that almost gave him pole lol
difference is stoner would find a clear track as you said and blister out 1 lap. bautista is notorious for doing what he did. i say if you can do it go ahead. ionne tried to follow rossi and you saw what happened.
Difference is he had 45 minutes to find a clear track. There is no clear track in a 15 min qualifier
Listen, Rossi was Rossi cause he was that good then. There is a caviot of info.....Rossi was alone in his greatness. There were no others like him, skill, personality, a presence.
There were good riders, but Rossi types...none. Now....Rossi is not the exception, but the rule and he is not what he was.
Stoner, Lorenzo, pedrosa, Marquez, crutchlow, not to mention the lot coming up from Moto 2. No one will be a Rossi, cause the game and the competition has changed.....there has been a shift ( I love the pun) in the sport itself. We must all wait and see how MM turns out.
I personally think careers will not last as long anymore. I think it will become like football...I mean soccer were 30 is the end of one's career cause we have to many potential Rossis now and teams will become fickle in there retention of their riders.
Rossi has done amazing things in his life, for this sport, and elevated the recognition that these athletes, and they are super athletes deserve.
Not quite sure I agree with some of your statements. Firstly, I wouldn't lump Crutch in with the top tier guys just yet. He has quite a bit to prove before he can be elevated to that class, imo. Also, your hypothesis that rider careers will not last as long due partially to the influx of potential Rossis seems unfounded. Rossi level talent generally only comes around once every 10-15 years, which is what we're seeing now with MM.
