Hmm, as one who LOVES new gadgets and electronic gear- Id have to say this is pretty damn cool. For street riding i dont see this as a serious show stopper but for those tracking their rides (Leon) I assume this feature would be advantageous in certain applications. The days of me buying the hottest new bikes with most technology are pretty much over, as the 2012 Tricolore of mine has rarely stretched its legs as often as it should or used to under my wrath! I rode the 1198s Corse much more than this one, and the Tri has 10x more aftermarket bling on it too!

Ah, the joys of getting old with disabilities! :(

Man, I had already set my eyes on the 899 in December. Now they are coming out with this ..... I may still get the 899 and I'll have to think if this is worth upgrading my base at the end of next year. 1199R with SL internals engine > clutchless upshifts and downshifts in my book.

899 for real??
You want to enter the middle weight class I take it?
Hell, at your monumental size you should be thinking of BIGGER displacement man!! LOL

Nah, this will be my street bike and something for me to ride when my girl wants to get on her bike. I follow her in the car when she rides right now. BUT, I will make is light as .... and some parts to make her run with the big dogs.

That's kind of interesting, but wonder if it's really that much different than quick shift?

I think the clutchless downshift is the big selling point here.

I did a Porsche track day when the Tiptronic was first released, and wasn't too nuts about the downshifting on the track. The downshift was more a a "request" to downshift. The car would decide if it was safe, RPMs too high, slippery road, in a turn, etc, then proceed with the downshift when it deemed it "safe" lol.

Just making a hunch based upon nothing buy my own opinion, but I think some things were lost in translation and they are just talking about an auto-blipping function for downshifts. With ride-by-wire, it's just some programming and an extra solenoid. Many bikes have it already now. Don't see it getting paddle shifting or whatever.

I've noticed a lot of things in the leaks that sound like someone translating italian incorrectly when you read them.

My 899 has that function already, added with the tune-boy system, and it works great. I hope that makes its way into more production bikes in the future, it's really nice for the track. I think you're right about the "leaks" on the A&R site, they're all coming from someone who has no facts and is trying to make it sound like he's an "insider" when in fact he's google-translating Italian motorsports web site articles, and has made a career of some sort out of doing that and publishing his speculations on a web site with Google ads all over it. And everyone keeps grabbing the links and spreading them all over the forums like it's gold! And then a week later he's completely changed his "facts" to something else, with a whole new round of links being sent out all over the forums with the latest. It's ingenious, really, I applaud his entrepreneurship! His accuracy of information is right up there with your local weather forecaster......

The last Porsche Tiptronic I drove was an automatic. That's why.

This is just a quickshifter/paddle shifter for a bikes manual transmission.

Wonder if it'll be able to be shifted from and foot shifter and buttons near the grips? I'll bet it's the same clutch, not a complex electronic dual clutch. Allthough, Lamborghini has a very nice paddle shifter twin clutch system. So the tech is available to Ducati.

The problem with seamless twin clutch shifting........if it's timed wrong it is going to kaboom the transmission or worse.

I've noticed that if i let off the accelerator and tap down on my 1199s it'll often downshift without depressing the clutch.

I have experimented with the throttle blip clutchless downshifts. They can be done real easy by just putting the weight of your toe on the shifter as you blip the throttle. It is really smooth and very effective when slowing for corners.
