Was going to post two days ago when it came in the mail but I was just too damn lazy.
I guess they figured, "hey, these guys have 1200's, why not try and sell them a SMALLER bike" LOL
EDIT: I'm curious to know how many people they sent the "exclusive" email for Project 1201.... Ducati is (to me) well known for hyping up everything with words like "limited" and "exclusive" yet they email the same thing to thousands, if not more people.

hahaha, I wouldn't consider it "showing off" but I get what you mean.
I figure if 1,000 other people got the same thing its not really showoffable.. Yes, I made that word up.

Lol on your new word - yeah, some kinda marketing gimmick to all us 1199 owners. Kinda embarrassing, send us a card to get a heavier, slower bike.

I don't necessarily believe the invitation was intended as a means to entice a potential swap, but to show current Ducati owners the courtesy of offering them an opportunity to purchase the 899 - perhaps as an additional bike - before everyone else. It seems like a sound gesture.

And after all I've done for them! Handed over money for all kinds of Ducs over the years and they've kicked me to the curb without cab fare. Not even a phone call.
