when recording your lap times with this device do you have to actually start it and hit anything after a lap or is it all done automatically by positioning on the track?

To answer your question, yes. You must turn it on each time you start the bike and go out and then you press the button to start it at the start/finish line point you select it does all rest from there.

If you still can, return it and get a SoloDL.

Logs more data channels and does so without needing a babysitter. Plus the software is 10x better than the DDA software.

No babysitter? You don't have to turn it on or start the timer?

Looks nice. I need something like this to fit the Aprilia and doesn't look like they habe a direct connect for it.

Nope and nope.

Turn the bike on and it turns on. Turn the bike off and it turns off shortly after. Bike starts moving and it starts timing. Bike stops moving and it stops timing. Connects to the bike's CAN port and running the wire from the port to the steering stem nut where the mounting bracket sits is a 15 minute, one time, job.

It has a pretty sizable number of tracks in the US in its database from the factory. All six of the tracks I'm aware of in my state are pre-programmed and apparently the vendor provides updates. You can also import your own tracks if you're going somewhere that isn't pre-programmed.

Incredibly easy system to deal with.

Sounds like a great system. Thx for the info.

Club Racing Still Using.,................

Transponders in WERA & CCS?

Look at the tail piece of my 748R in this pic.
You used to have to buy a tiny bracket which was mounted with a simple zip tie thru two holes, and then could either "Rent" or "Purchase" the Track Transponder which would record all your lap times for them, and print them up. Are they still using these suckers out there or what?

If so, have they ever started using them for gridding purposes yet?
Used to be that the earlier you registered for a particular race, you got your grid spot closer to the front - which is obviously cool but just a money maker. Hard to friggin believe I stopped actual "Racing" back in 2004 after the OCONUS incident, but kept the bike for a couple track days here n there until i relinquished it to Phil who will be winning every race of the entire year next season - right brother??

I like the idea of this model, do you have a picture of it on your bike? I'd like to see how its mounted etc

I haven't had any complaints about the DDA other than the Mac software has a couple odd bugs but nothing that has affected function. You turn on the DDA on the dash before each session. You only have to set your start/finish position the first time that you cross the line on your very first time at the track. If you go back to the same track again it remembers that spot. I like that I don't have to add anything extra to my bike and I can review lap times right after the session. If I actually raced I'd consider another option but for track days I think the onboard DDA is great.

LOL - maybe one or two.

i actually put the transponder on the forks - if i had mine in the back i would have lost a second place at least. i beat a guy by 0.025 s over the line. you want to have it as much in front as possible.

My bodywork isn't on my bike right now but you get the picture. One picture with the DL installed on the bracket and one with the bracket itself.
