I was doing some research and reading about the rear shock settings when i stumbled upon this thread.
It's about the rear shock front bolt shearing off and the complete back-end of the bike collapsing.
It's a huge miss Ducati designed the shock mount like that, a person has already died because of the bolt failing.
I have ordered the Sato suspension support and i am not even riding the bike anymore before i have installed the part.
Please read and take action!!!

This caused quite a stir at the time. There was lots of speculation, including that the wrong bolt may have been installed on the bike. But before you panic too much, think of this: It happened a while back. There has been ample time for the incident to be studied and remedial action to be taken by Ducati if there was a fundamental issue with the design. But no action has been taken. No recall. So either Ducati is still asleep over the issue or there is no issue and the bikes are safe. You decide... I was happy to ride my 1299 for 15,000 miles. Same design.

every time you're doing 280k's up the front straight consider this: youre straddling bits of searing hot metal spinning at 11`,000 rpm just under your ball sack, youre lying on a tank full of highly inflammable liquid and this thing is using all of its 200 hp to try and rip a credit card sized patch of rubber away from the road plus all of this .... is under control by coordinating both feet and both hands plus your brain and eyes so carefully that a micro second of distraction will send you into the fence..... and you tell me to worry about a bolt?

I wouldn't worry about anything if i were u. Worrying doesn't help a man at all. Solving issues does!

U can do what ever u like about it. Leave it as it is or reinforse the mounting it's up to u. I sure know what i'm gonna do about it.

necessary or not...
looks good, technically, nothing wrong with that.
stop. one thing. stainless bolts? i dont belive in that.

Not surprising actually. That front shock mount is NOT a correctly designed for a shear application. The DV mount and the Spider mount are as they support the fastener on both sides. Compounding the issue is the crap Ducati uses for hardware. Easy fix

The Desmo mount requires a different shock setup anyhow. I just included it for a perspective. The Spider mount is a direct replacement. Machined billet construction and very solid. The sato, is not as robust but a solution nonetheless.

Just contact Richard Boyd at Desmo they will set you up with the mount, shock eye, short Ohlins spring. You can use your same TTX I would recommend upgrading to the DU466 which is the latest shock. I just run the manual pre load but hydraulic is a option as well.

Obviously my reply is not serious but the reality is given thousands if not millions of ks with this factory bolt, its an adequate solution for most. A Prius gets you to the supermarket the same as a Ferrari. You can improve many aspects of the engineering on the bike but whether its required is another story

I purchased the Sato unit a couple of years ago... inexpensive, easy to install... cheap insurance perhaps. The Desmo piece that endodoc posted is very nice... appears to have been well-constructed.

have a link, I did a google search and couldn't find it for sale

I got the Spider from HSBK
The Desmo came from Richard but that’s not really practical as you need to change a few other pieces on the shock for it to work. Stock shock, Spider is a great option

Do not replace the bolt in the stock front shock mount bolt with titanium. The stock bolt is a 12.9. No available titanium replacement is that strong.
If you have one of the double shear aftermarket brackets then titanium is fine.

Yes that's my thought also so i'll replace the bolts with titanium.

I wouldn't recommend that. Titanium has many strengths, shear strength isn't one of them. If you're replacing the bolt for safety, Titanium isn't the safest option.

OK i will keep the original bolts i gues. Thanks for the advise.
