Just purchased a 2016 Ducati 1299 S. The heat from the exhaust is melting the rear tire hugger. Anyone else experience this? I’m fully aware of the legendary heat these monsters put off! That doesn’t bother me. Just curious though. My old 899 was very hot but I did not have the hugger melting. Would carbon be any better? It’s an stock exhaust. Thanks

I have a 2017 1299s...it runs hot, especially during summer months, but never hot enough to melt the rear hugger. I swapped the stock hugger out with a carbon one a few years ago, no issues with heat. Congrats on your purchase, 1299 is a great bike.

It happens. Mine is bubbled in some spots. First hugger was bad with stock exhaust. This one isn't as bad with akra exhaust but it's still bubbled. Doesn't bother me though. The bike is a furnace.

When I was running the Termi relevance slipons I had a matte carbon full six rear hugger and a ducati matte carbon heat shield. The area on the rear carbon hugger that was almost at the front of it where the 2 front screws bolt to the swing arm began to turn yellowish. It was this one area that was about 1/3rd the size dimensions of a samsung galaxy S10 plus. Ive since replaced it with a gloss Ilmberger one when I changed out other Fullsix matte carbon parts for gloss Ilmberger carbon parts. I wound up selling the termis and bougth the Vandemon undertail exhaust that came with gloss carbon heat shields. But the way the Vandemon is shaped it wont come close the rear hugger in that spot. Although the Vandemon may do something to the right and left side of the rear hugger. Time will tell. It took 3 seasons for the matte carbon hugger to turn yellowish

Do yourself and your bike a favour. Get the Full Akra exhaust.

Surprisingly, removing the heat covers on the rear cylinder(s) seemed to help as well (on my 1199 and V4) I think they are just there to prevent burns for people who may ride in shorts but prevent any airflow over the outside of the cylinder.
