Good Afternoon,

So inbetween trying to find new things to occupy my reading interests on a few forums I started to wonder...

Most of the Japanese bikes have special "kits" that you can get for racing the bikes, such as; different Cams, ECU flashes, etc. So I started to wonder, what does Ducati have for this bike, if anything?

Does anyone happen to know what is available for this bike, or is it such a hotly guarded secret?

DISCLOSURE: I don't race, and I didn't do a search... Just trying to get some topics going in between all the "free" movies, and shows and such.

Not much for the Pani, but it would be interesting for the "old timers", 1098s and such, to tell us if and when those kinda things became available so we could see if the Pani would have any.

For a few years now Ducati have built specific bikes for the racers, there is a Panigale out there already its just a touch expensive and not road homologated.

When I got the "Race" cam and the thin head gasket for my ZX-10r, that made a huge increase in power after it (cam) was degreed and was tuned.

Being my first Duc, I'm itching to see if there is just as much "toys" that we can get for this bike that helps the motor out. I know none of us will ever use the full potential, but sometimes it's nice to know that there is still a little bit more hiding in there.

I get what you are saying but, do you really need more than 1.19 hp/Kg?
Did you whack the throttle open at 9000 rpm in 3rd gear?

If you don't have an S, you should try some light wheels. It's always my favorite mod and generally the first one I do. I just installed some forged aluminium ones and it's a huge improvement; not only in less power lost but also in overall lightness and flickability. Magnesium ones would be a step above, which is what is used in WSBK and MotoGP.

Another great improvement (I'll be doing it soon) is to change the rear sprocket to a 41 t. this will bring the power delivery earlier and more usable. The stock gearing is suited to high-speed tracks, not stop-and-go twisties.

As others have mentioned, the 1199 RS is the only model available with more power but not homologated for road use. And, besides bragging rights, not really useful.

Granted, my 145 lbs help a lot but i'm sure that more power isn't the answer.

If you want to talk about handling, though, i'm there. As with all Ducati, it's far from compliant and needs much better components. I'm not a fan of Ohlins and that's why I opted out of the S and will be fitting something more evolved. Can't wait.

Haha,

No one needs anywhere near 1.19hp/Kg, especially as a street rider, but it is just that need to get my hands into the bike a bit more.

Agreed lighter wheels make a huge difference, add on top of that some Ceramic wheel bearings and you are flicking like no ones business.

I have not yet done the 41t rear, but I do have a 14t front, figured -1/+2 would be entirely too much gearing for this one. I have also done a hop on at 9k in third gear, and it induces a large smile, for sure.

Just find it interesting that there is not much to do to the motor that is being publicly mentioned. It could simply be my ignorance from the Japanese bikes or vehicles in general. I have always tried to make something a little faster, just because I could. Just to see what could be done... I have not yet owned a vehicle that I haven't played in the motor, don't want to start now. :)
