Can you imagine just how good an 899S or R would be with all the new electronics, Ohlins suspension, lightweight forged wheels.. Weight around 405 lbs? My wife would be buying one RGHT NOW to replace her Triump Daytona 675R. It would make a hell of a track day/race bike.

Yes I can, I made my own last year! I can't believe Ducati would ever make an 899R for several reasons, I think it's possible they could make an "S" or "Corse" or something similar if they think there's a market there between the 899 and the base 1299, but I would see virtually zero chance of any 899 being released that is priced above the base 1299. That's the kind of bike they only make for homologation (i.e. the 749R), and the 899 can't race anywhere so not likely to happen.

After my wife's 675R was stolen, she was looking at getting an 1199S, but the cops got the 675R back after a week, so she decided to keep the 675R.. The insurance allowed her to get the 675 back to pristine condition.i thought your wife took the s freeing you up for the R either way mad cool your wife rides
they'll never make an 899R because R models are specifically for race homologation. There was a 749R - the last model Ducati raced in Supersport.
This.
The 899 is a ....... bike. It is basically useless. Ducati "displaced" themselves out of every racing series worldwide with that extra 50cc. They could/should have make this same new engine, but kept it at 849cc so it could race in SS/MW classes worldwide.
The only thing the 899 accomplishes is giving people a "Panigale on a budget" so people can own a Ducati without emptying their bank account.
There is no need for an 899R because it doesnt fit into any race classes.
So everyone who purchased a 899 is poor? So what if the 899 doesn't have a class to race in. Does the gsxr750? Oh I forgot the 1299?This.

Aww
I will say a few grand was certainly not the reason I chose an 899 over the 1199.

Agreed about wera, there is a class to run just about anything including the 899. When anyone makes that claim that the 899 is pointless because there Is no class for it it just iritates me a little. While WERA is a great Avenue for anyone who wishes to to race I don't think manufactures have them in mind when decided what bikes to build. I found the 899 more street friendly than the 1199.I don't think CB implied that the 899 was for people that can't afford an 1199. Also, the 1299 and race 6 different classes in Wera.
Taking the full context of his statement makes it more understandable. The "R" models have always been homologation specials. Since the 899 can't be raced (competatively) in any major series, there is no reason for Ducati to make an 899R.
