Ducati Superleggera Fender eliminator / plate holder solutions

Where are the pics, man? I gotta do something to get rid of that damned fender. I'm considering the DP solution, but am hoping for something a little bit more sleek

Sorry, boss. I've been traveling non-stop for work. Literally. I will try to put some up on Tuesday.....

Promise!

SORRY! Here you go. No plate light as of yet, but the integrated light does a good job of lighting it up.

I will figure out a plate light next summer, but this is why I put the plate here.

Take off two titanium bolt, boom plate is off completely for track days.

So yeah... I tried going with the CF smooth undertail option that seems to work so well for others, and it just simply does not work with the SL. Shame. Shame it also took me many hours of disassembly and reassembly to figure that out too. Bah!

So instead I kept the DP fender eliminator piece that shipped with the SL, which turns out is a nice mounting point for a universal aluminum license plate bracket, and added some lighting via LED-embedded bolts:

WOW... That looks great! I think I am going to copy you!

I need to figure out a quick disconnect solution. The way it is wired up now is a total pain in the ...... Basically I need a coupler for a quick disconnect that is rugged enough to be exposed (not tucked into the fairing) directly.

The LED bolts have the wires coming out the back and raw wire leads. You have to thread the wire through the washer/nut and then run the wire... This means that to take off (or change) plates, the entire thing needs to be unwired from the harness and unrouted from the body... eesh.

Basically, if I could find a very lightweight, waterproof, rugged, and NARROW wire harness coupler to fit here:

It would solve the problem.

The coupler would have to be:
  • narrow enough that the washer and nut can fit over it
  • light/rugged enough that it would vibrate loose/apart during normal use
  • waterproof, as it will be directly exposed to the elements (and crap spitting up off the tire)
I'm not sure that such a thing exists...

I'm going to my dealer today and showing them this. I will report back.

Bumping this up to see any other ideas people have come up with since 2014 for license plate mounts on the SL. I installed the fender eliminator that came in the race kit, but would like to come up with a very minimalist license plate mount. I will be using an integrated tail light, and don’t care about having a license plate light.

Any more ideas or info on mounts that fit the SL tail? Thanks!

Hey man got your PM so yeah I did respond letting you know I can make you one. Just made one few months ago for a 1199SL.

Man I must be getting old

6 months goes by in what seems like 24 hrs

Welcome back : )

Just a follow up for anyone else that ends up searching and finding this thread.

I planned on going with Mick’s carbon FE, but I decided to try the NRC basic one first just in case it works (NRC part # 1199-FEB). Turns out it works perfect. I used rubber washers and black pan head screws from the SL race kit, so the entire thing looks very OE. The light plugs into the original plug.
