There's only 500 of you out there... which means I want to see 500 pictures of triple trees showcasing your limited edition number.

For those lucky 500, post up a picture showing off your Superleggera and please include a picture of the triple tree so we can see what limited number you have!

For those unlucky 956,207,892,392 Ducati riders, this is your mission... in the event you see an ultra rare Superleggera, please take 2 pictures, one of the almighty bike and one of the triple tree cover so we can see what limited number we don't have!

This should be a fun thread!

a lot of owners don't mind you taking pics of their bike, but some prefer that the triple tree number is /not/ taken. . I would suggest you get permission from the owner before leaning over and taking the picture and posting it. . I know this to be the case with several numbered bikes in previous generations. So not something I would encourage you to do unless you have the owners permission. Otherwise you're just asking for Ducati owners to be more difficult in the future about not having pictures taken period.

Aaah interesting... I was not aware of this. In my earlier years, I had a numbered 996SPS (#17 on the triple tree) and I never even thought about worrying about the number.

Would it be best to remove the request for the triple tree picture?

FYI - I only posted that triple tree pic because a fellow owner posted that pic on our Ducati 1199 Facebook Page, so I assumed it was fair game.

Thoughts?

Are you requesting people to post pictures they took of a triple, or only one that is their personal bike? If it is already posted anywhere, it is fair game - part of the rules of the internet lol

your bike - no big deal. . but asking people to just go up to someones bike whether they are looking or not and snapping a triple tree number and posting the picture along with identifying information in my book is - "not cool". . . It's a common courtesy type of thing. If I go up to someones bike, I would always ask whether I could take a picture before doing so (including the triple tree). I wouldn't just go up to someone's bike and without asking - snap a picture of someones triple tree and post it. . . That's almost akin to snapping a picture of the VIN and posting it - because both are identifying marks. And if you're going to post someone else's property with identifying marks, I think you should have permission before doing so.

I think that's a naive and frankly paranoid view of things... If the bike is parked in a public place then it is ..in my view..in the public domain..therefore I can take as many pictures of it as I wish... As long as I do not touch it..interfere with it in anyway then the owner has no rights to prevent me taking such images.... Of course I would ask if the owner was there...but do I have to?? No I do not...

As I said - some people have common courtesy, others don't. .

I can come up to your bike and touch and fawn all over it as long as I don't damage it as well. . Sure, you can do it but how courteous is it ?

No...You have no right to touch it... I specifically said that!!!

Sure it may be a means to identify a vehicle but who cares? Vin's are posted all over the net and so are license plates, yet people are extra paranoid about blocking that when posting photos. To me that is comical.

If the owner of each SL doesn't care, with or without permission, post up the photos...triples n all.

That's the way I see it too. If the triple number was private information, it wouldn't be printed on the triple:confused:

Further, it is seen as an insult to crop out handlebars, foot pegs, or the headlight when taking photos of the Superleggera, as well as when taking photos of images and/or statues of the Superleggera.

lol @ statues

For the record, should any of you come across my SL out in the wild you are completely free to photograph it as you see fit, including the top of the tree. I'll update this post when I know my # (sometime next week, FSM-willing) so there's no confusion.

That said, finding an unattended SL out in the wild is surely going to be an unlikely event.

Is this guy serious??
If your bike is in public you have ZERO expectation of any privacy. If I want to take a photo of your car/bike/person I legally can and will if I want. Nothing "not cool" about taking a photo of something in public.

I'd be happy if somebody took photos of my R., in fact it happens every trip I take to Princeton.

Should I see an SL I'll be sure to snap a triple photo for ya :)

rarely are "jersey shore" and "common courtesy" discussed together. . . .

If its on Facebook its fair game. If they did not want the world to know it would not be on Facebook

I agree here. . . If its posted by the owner - its fine. . My disagreement is asking people that when they see an SL, to go up to the triple tree and take a picture and post it. That owner may have never wanted his bike posted, may have never posted it and may prefer not to have any identifying marks to be posted. That was the issue - not the ones that were already posted, but to go out and search and fine ones that had not been and snap a picture w/o the owners knowledge or consent. While its certainly not illegal (there are some private property concerns as well as if it somehow goes to commercial usage issues) - I classify this under the "not cool" and no common courtesy. . I have zero issues with the bike shot or posted. I just don't think it should go as far as the triple tree number as I have known some previous owners of certain numbered bikes that opposed people taking shots of their triple tree.

I can't figure out if @anthem is being serious... What can you possibly do with this number? Even if you had some inside track to dmv, what would you say... "I am looking for #55 of 100." They wouldn't have a clue what the f you were talking about.

An SL is a tiny speck in the universe.
