DWC - does it make pulling away harder?

Was playing around with the DWC the other day (set to 8 to see what it does), usually have it off. Noticed when pulling away I stalled a few times, is this because its manipulating the amount of power to keep the wheel down?

yep. in my experience, having it turned off or set too low also hurts acceleration *times*, although it *pulls* quite hard! The ideal is to be able to pin the throttle and have the front either on the ground or briefly lifting no more than an inch or so.

What he said.

For me driving down the main straight at Miller I can set it to position 3 or 4 and the front wheel just gets light with each shift but the Pani R pulls harder down the straight than anything I've been behind.

On my bike I have 3 maybe 4 to work well to not be intrusive .

agreed. 3 or 4 seems to be the sweet spot for being able to hammer the throttle at will and get minimal lift/maximum forward drive. the first time I tried a full acceleration run from a stop after getting my bike remapped, I had the DWC at 2 and the Tuneboy throttle mapping at its most aggressive. Front wouldn't stay down and I reached a slower mph than I usually do in this "testing area". DWC at 4 was more comfortable as the front stayed put, DWC at 3 was a bit more "lively" but still well under control.

Hahahah clean video good sir... I've played with it a bit, more or less for the sake of trying to keep it up while not 12o'clocking it... I've come to just leave it on 1, for the mental thought of safety if I came up too high. I always power it up in 2nd, cracking it open at 7k and ride it or till 11 and put it down a good distance down. Has anyone tried to clutch up a wheelie with DWC on? I use to have it on 3... And could still power up 2nd and figured in 3rd I'd be able to clutch it up but couldn't, I'm sure it's cuz I had DWC on 3. Anyone find a level to clutch it up with it on or is it just impossible, bike is too smart for thst

I put it on two and just forget its there.

Majority of 1299 owners would be 1199 owners and after owning the 1199 everyone should be able to handle the torque and be able to handle the fine line between opening it as hard as you can and keeping the front no more than an inch or two off the ground. A low setting just makes it a little bit easier to dance along that line, without turning your brain off and letting the bike ride you.

I feel, the front coming up and the front end getting light always under hard acceleration, is more consistent. Than majority of the time the front wheel pinned to the ground, with an occasional surprise every now and then, I don't want to be surprised by it coming up when I'm not expecting it.

Obviously its personal preference but that's why I set my bike up that way.

I really like the approach Ducati had to the wheelie control. Similar to the KTM 1290 SDR. Doesn't stop the front coming up but trims the power ever so slightly that it slows the event down so you aren't bothered by the front wheel coming up when ... and can hover it off the deck that much easier.

Yeah I left on 2. When I had it on 6 and tried to make a fast get away the bike stalled (I was between a bus and truck at the traffic lights lol), I think the throttle might be a bit unpredictable for fast get aways in the highest levels or maybe its just me not used to it.

Would you recommend setting 1 or 2 to carry a nice 2 -3 ft power wheelie?

With mine set on 1 the front end comes up in second and as long as the throttle is pinned, it'll carry the front up through 140 or so. The front end just barely comes off the ground in first but it pulls very hard....

It took me quite a while to gain confidence in the wheelie control. Once I did....the grin factor is off the charts.

One other thing....I wanted to see how good the traction control and ABS operated so I attacked the empty lot across the street from my house. It is sand with grass on it. I rode my 1299 like a freakin dirtbike and it didn't kill me. I tried to get the front ABS to lock up on the street but the tires/brakes worked so effectively that the stoppies were starting to terrify me.:D

The traction control and ABS work so well I'll never own another bike without them....

I set mine to 1 at the drag strip and the front end was pointed towards the moon in 2nd gear I had to let off to make it come down!

Crank it around 7k in second gear and smack it and ride it out a pretty damn good distance.

I finally settled on level 1; I was so used to my BMW S1000RR which wheelied like a beast, that I developed a "wrestling" approach to keeping the front end on that bike down, since the electronics were useless. I time my upper body movement to "slam" my chest down on the tank to counteract the wheelie... It seems to work even better on my 1299. :D

Of course, when you WANT to wheelie, just turn DWC off and get ready for instantaneous power wheelies in the first 4 gears; just keep your right foot covering the rear brake and you're all set.
