Eccentric hub rust

Polish the axle with 600 grit wet and dry. I agree with everyone else, weird failure. I look at them at about 30K but the big axles (1098 up) generally don't need repacking even if they've seen thousands of miles of rain (everytime we go to colorado we get rained or hailed on). Way better seal arrangement then the earlier hubs. A couple of those bearings are packed and sealed by (last on I saw was a SKF) the manufacturer. So if Ducati put a dry one in there they won't know. Normally utterly reliable.

I just looked at the axle close up, if it's now undersize much it may be no good. Bearing has to run true to the centerline of the axle. So you can lose a few thou but that's all. That big bearing on the drive side comes sealed. Someone in europe (desmo racing?) sells a complete bearing set for these way cheaper than ducati.

Adjusted my chain after washing the bike and couldn't believe the amount of water that came out of the hub after loosening the pinch bolts. Honestly thinking of backing these off after I wash the bike every time to let the water drain out.

Don't really see a downside to that strategy.
Great idea!

When washing the bike, avoid direct water on sealed areas. I then dry the bike using low pressure compressed air and take my bike out for a quick ride to evaporate and blow out any residual water that I could get too. Another area of water pooling is the stock exhaust. And there can be enough to submerge the rear shock linkage

100% definitely careful putting water around any area like this. Riding straight after washing is the best but I always use a blower everywhere to clear out excess water. Don't start me on the stock exhaust lol. Been waiting 3 months now for my system to come from WRS. Over the bushfires when i pull up from leaves smoldering away in that enormous cavity

The big lightening hole will put water into the swingarm not the the hub. The hub has a seal and then a sealed bearing. Yes it gets grungy point the hose away. Failures have to be caused by pressure washing or a bad batch of bearings. The design is robust.

It would only be a new note in the user manual: "Take your bike to your nearest Ducati Dealer for service requirement after washing" 😄

Nope, it would say “Take your bike to the nearest Ducati Dealer FOR WASHING and service”

I've also seen these type of issues on single sided BMWs.

Looking at the Hub not sure it needs to be replaced maybe just media blasted.

A little over 9000 miles. Bike is a 2020 V4S bought right before the lock-down ........ in March of 2020. I can't believe how dry this area was. I packed the hell out of the area now with heavy duty grease.

Can't believe a new spindle in close to $900 and most of the used ones are at least $300-400 and look like crap. I am also glad I caught this when I did.

You're getting ripped off @ $900, should be around $600

^Was looking at the Ducati of Omaha website. Still shopping hoping to find a less expensive one. If you know of a supplier please share.

Ducati of Omaha quotes: 81920831AA - REAR WHEEL SPINDLE Regular price $896.39

Ducati of Omaha quotes: 75620131A - HUB Regular price $837.80

My 2019 race bike is about to get tore down to the engine for a serious overhaul and my trusted guy adivsed that the HUB takes a lot of abuse and almost certainly should be replaced and possibly the SPINDLE too. Ouch! But I'm keen to keep the bike in spec for these critical components. I've also washed the bike with a garden hose twice in 3 years, so we'll see....

Nice! I ordered a new stator cover from CMS and it was better price than any US price I found.

There are a number of MotoGP riders with the CMS logo on the tail. You are likely correct re WSB bikes too.

Delivery for me was quick, maybe 2-3 wks.
Good luck!
