EVO2 software - slick / race rain tyre use only ?

Guys I just called Frasers asking about the EVO2 software install for my 2018 V4S which I use on road and at track days, and they advise against doing it. Checking the Ducati website it now appears to recommend this only for race slick / rain tyres. DTC Evo 2 Frasers says hardly anyone has paid for this to install on a V4.

Guess I won't bother then ?

Yeah, I read that too. Not that I would *necessarily* justify the cost for my particular use case... but it is a bit of a shame, as you would think some of the things they say it improves (e.g. more linear wheel spin) would benefit street riding too.

Is it active in all modes (i.e. Race, Sport and Street)? For those who track their bikes enough but still use them on the street... it would be cool if it was only active in Race mode (and/or adapted for the different modes to be race/road optimised)??

Correct, it is intended for slicks only and not tested with road tires. They can't guarantee TC will function properly on road tires with it. I'm sure realistically, you'd be just fine, but for 700+ bucks it really isn't worth it for a street machine.

I added it to my bike as I was able to get a good deal with my local dealer and have done a couple of short canyon rides. I have only been able to do one track day since the install. The shifting is smoother but I also have an aftermarket QS. I am not sure it is worth the $700 + hour labor cost. I noticed that it has been taken off of Ducati's site as an accessory.

I did the Evo2 update on my bike. the main thing I like from it is the QS is a lot smoother on the track (mainly the downshifts, I would get a lot of mis downshifts before the evo2 update). I have problems with my QS while track riding, but slow chill riding on the street its not problem. For just street riding, you may not notice the difference in the quick shifter.

I had it on my 2018 V4S and it's getting installed on my new 2019 V4S. I'm happy with it. I really like the fact that it now shows speed once I get over 186mph.

I suspect that the difference is measured in tenths, maybe, given race pace and a rider that was flirting with the idea of turning DTC off. Eight conditionally useful DTC levels is probably better than essentially one or none.

I wouldn't intentionally screw up DTC's calibration on a street bike though. If you've become accustomed to being able to lean on DTC there's a very real chance it's going to behave in a way that's not consistent with your expectations when calibrated for higher performance rubber.

I have it and shifting if far superior.

I have had it at the track for one day and needed new tyres and ended up on slicks for the first time ever.

Unfortunately I didn’t try with the street tyres but believe if it is better with slicks then it would be better with street tyres.
My thought is the bike can’t know the difference in grip from slicks on a non grippy track and street tyres on a super grippy track. So assuming both situations had the same overall grip how would the bike know if it’s the track or the tyres providing the grip levels?

Would love people’s opinions on this

Yes I tend to agree, spin is spin really isn't it.

Motzarelli - Did you install the go back to stock settings - the exhaust sensors connected, no mapping installed, then get the EVO2 software update done, then remove the exhaust bungs and reinstall the T-800 upmap mapping ?

I have a 2019 V4 and had this SW installed at 600 mile service, along with Akro exhaust. As soon as I got the bike home, I did a 20 mile street romp with the OEM Supercorsas, I think with DTC conservatively set to 4 versus my usual 2, and noticed nothing sketchy at all. This included some fast drag starts and somewhat aggressive acceleration out of corners. After that, I did my first track day, still with the Supercorsas, and went pretty hard with no traction control oddities whatsoever. Zero sketchy moments. As the tire degraded session to session, I felt the usual slippage and intervention and all was good. Then I had a second track day, this time at super-slippery Chuckwalla a day after they resurfaced it, and ran a 50% used SC2 rear tire with DTC set to 5 and 4, out of an abundance of cuation. (The track was slippery as hell!) Again, slipage and intervention felt as expected. Nothing weird or unexpected

I tend to agree that spin is spin, and the Ducati traction control is pretty great whether you have the stock SW or this "enhanced" SW. I think this SW is nothing to be worried about if riding on the street. I think the TC algorithm in this SW is enhanced to a degree that probably only a club racer or above, with a really dialed in setup, might notice. As a definite plus though, the shifting is much quicker/better at high revs, up and down, and I am looking forward to seeing an unlocked speedo on some of the longer straightaways.

I have my first real unrestrained test this Sunday at Willow Springs. I'll have a fresh SC1 rear and will probably set DTC to 3 before 2. I'm expecting very good grip from the rear tire and a very fun day. :)

I think this was my sequence.....

- Install slip on and upmap with sensors in and connected
- Get evo2 installed.
- noticed bike getting slower. I think
- disconnected and removed o2 sensors and went back to stock or at least I think as it still showed racing pro on the dash. Did this twice. Then reloaded the upmap. Bike was better for sure.

I think I did a short test ride in there somewhere and from what I remember the upmap doesn’t affect the evo 2 because my quickshifter stayed good all the way after having the evo 2 done
