Easy killer, I just wanted make sure people dont come across this thread and miss interpret , as I did I suppose.

Sorry my mistake I thought you were being serious about performance...you own a panigale, not a panigucci.

I'm pretty sure you wrote about OEM stuff not being as good as the real thing. That happens to be a reference to performance.

If I was going to build a model and place it on a stand and use it as a conversation piece, then I might buy the $11k Ohlins gas charged forks....they look way more Moto GP cowboy.

Now that I got that out of my system. I think it's awesome that you have that extra cash to spend. It is very hard to break the stereotype on the owners of this bike. I would love for you to build the dream bike and ride it hard, and turn quick respectable laps. That helps the group on this forum.

I like your choice in suspension, I don't think people should just buy something cause its the iconic brand, there's lots of K-tech it what I'd use if I bought a base.

Anyhow, take it all in stride build your bike and post some good pics.

hey, I've had showas, marzocchis, ohlins on all of my bikes. I'm not a good enough rider to tell the difference, even on the track. I do know the $40 I spent getting my showas dialed in on my streetfighter at a track day last year was the best money I'd ever spent on suspension.

Of course the OEM Ohlins stuff is much cheaper than the race stuff, and as several posters so inclined to point out the obvious said, it is sufficient for the overwhelming majority of purchasers of the products they come on.

Showa is also very active in MotoGP suspension (Bautista's RC213V for one). In SBK (STK 600/1000, Supersport, SBK), there are ton of different companies that provide suspension to different teams, Showa, Kayaba, Bitubo, Marzocchi, WP, FG Gubellini, etc.

ease up guys, suspension threads get even more heated than what oil to use threads, or what quick change sprocket to use and is the 520 chain conversion worth it. :D

Maybe that's because suspension (at least to me) is priority number one on my bike.
Dialing in the existing equipment would be the first step. If it still doesn't do what you need it to do then upgrade.
If people want the best stuff that's out there and can afford it, good for them. ;)
I could care less whether they need it or not or if they have the skills to use it.
Riding Ducatis is a hobby and you decide how far you want to go with it. :D

Suspension is like a putter in golf, it's a personal thing. Not everyone rides the same as some load up the front more than the rear in a corner or vise versa or some like it evenly distributed. Some like it soft and like to feel the bike squat while accelerating on the road some don't and some like it stiff on the track etc. I find the Ohlins OEM DES on the S has a too narrow of a range for the street and track combined for my style of riding and that was the deal killer for me on th S Tri. I personally dont like my spine being compressed on the street but on the track i like it stiff as hell. Bought the Base upgraded the forks to the FGRT 203 and rear suspension to the TTX36 MK II couldn't be happier because it has a really wider range of settings. So if you like the Bitubo better than the OEMs Ohlins you are not the only one out there. I know few people who bought the S and R have/are in the process of removing them.
