Finally, it's time to replace the battery in 1199s

Sorry mate I’m on my way to WSBK and forgot to look before I left.

Stock = YT7B-BS Yuasa

SSB equivalent is suppose to be RT7B-4 or VT7B-4 (acid) LH7B-4 (lithium)

Thing is I can't get it to fit without removing the rubber battery base and had to pry the lug over the terminal.

Did you have the same trouble?

My battery is on the way out after 8 years so picking up a Skyrich lithium today. I was just going to get the oem since it lasted so long but I thought I’d give this a try. Apparently it’s the official Ducati battery these days not sure if that’s true or not. The oem weighs 5.8lbs so will weigh the Skyrich when I get it although not bothered about the weight as long as it performs

Well I just installed the Skyrich what a pita. Although the battery is exactly the same size the leads and connects don’t align easily. It took about an hour of manipulate it to align. The good news it didn’t even register on my scales so under 1lb! So pretty much a 5lb weight saving and the bike fired up first click which is the most important. I have to say I miss my 998 the most simple of tasks is a pain when working on the Panigale.

Speedcell, one of lightest battery out there. I can remove the battery from the bike in 10 seconds. Purchased in aug of 2020. I have never had this battery on a charger. Spins up the 1299 very quickly. I’m also using a MOSFET starter relay and the SBK hi torque battery. Night an day difference from a stock bike.

endodoc, how much did your setup cost? also, you had an 1199 once? Is the 1299 and 1199 STOCK very similar in start up/cranking time? would i see the same drastic increase on my 1199?

The 1199/1299 very similar. The starter sequence on the stock bikes always seemed quite laborious.
1 Speedcell 5A SBK Battery. Superbike Unlimited $199.00
2 MOSFET Relay. Got it from Bike Sport Development. $150.00
3 SBK Starter. Got it off ebay. Not sure if there are any left. I bought 3 of them $250.00 ea
4 Battery tray. Home made 3D printed carbon $10.00 (materials) Battery clips in with a quick release tab.
5 Harness. I make made my own battery and starter harness. Parts from Racespec Online.22759/16/6 wire. I have a Tamburini main harness $100.00
Total $709.00

The RS starter motors are not available anymore I know Endo has a couple of them. The last new one in existence that was available I snagged last year it believe they were like $350??? Running that with my own cables with custom machined copper lugs, small Shorai LXF14A2-BS12 and a SBK carbon tray.

Mick has the same starter for his 1199. Not sure if he installed it yet. He also makes a carbon battery tray.

Carbon battery tray. Micks is nicer looking. This is bare bones for my application as I don’t have the stock fuse panel
