Finally the R is in the shop

That is not the look I would want. Looks like I will be keeping mine on for the time being.

Yeah, was in desperate need of Midol for the PMS I was going through.;)

Seeing it in pieces didn't fill me with enthusiasm after I found out the only Factory trained Pani tech skipped town...hoping that the other certified techs have picked up how to do an exhaust swap by osmosis by now. After that, it's really a no brainer that most of us could do in our own garages if we had to.

Based on it's level of gross dissection observed today; I'm sure it will be the weekend before I can take delivery.

I will nut and bolt everything possible, put on my new pegs, apply the 3M clear coat kit from TankSlapper and hit the roads.

I'll ask Gunny to get me an appropriate tail tidy and some sliders and I should be good to go.

Cannot think of anything else that this bike would need. It really does look more aggressive than the S and it has more sex appeal without the tricolor "in your face" bling.

Well there is a lot that you can add to an R as with any other 1199. Kobe999 has posted probably the most impressive R build I have seen to date.

A prudent investment would be in some high quality frame sliders (with suspension) - SATO is probably the best.

the rear cylinder heat guard/cover has me perplexed. how does its introduction cause wiring to show where they weren't to begin with? and why does the rear tail have to be raised to remove the piece? how big is the thing?

that looks like sh*t.

can anyone with a '12 S or Tri take a look at that area of their bike and tell us where that harness loom is currently?

Looks like its tucked down the side, and with the brake lines etc.
There one across the top, heading to the exhaust.

We always had to raise the tail to remove/replace the exhaust shield. The shield has to lift up, before it can slide out the rear.

Straying slightly off topic,

Is there a new or different CF heat shield for the full termi system similar to the new heat shield? or is there only the CF heat shield it has had for the last year or so?

Yes, that looks like ..... That is why I gave up as I did not know what to do with this rear loom. Where is it fixed on the 2012 models?

Here are pics of the harness loom on my 2013 1199 ABS pre heatshield update

There's a new cf heat shield that came out within the last few weeks/months for the full termi.

Thank you guys for the photos, I think the shield removal operation is doable. Back to topic, congratulations RSR racer.

tucked away indeed..

yesterday was to show how it looked when you remove the cover..

I told my shop to keep the cover for now... I just want it prepped so I can take it out for a spin!

Def concur on the sliders! As it comes with most avail CF bits; not seeing any where to gain improvement that way.

I will check with Gunny and see what he may have in mind. He's got a pretty good aesthetic opinion on things.

Nice pic of you and your son. :)

Are those the block off plates that came with the R? I thought they were aluminum?

Thanks...we had the usual fun picking it up...weather was spot on

-- the block off plates they installed are the ones that came with the bar end mirrors, or the bar end blinkers....the aluminum ones are more to my taste so i'll swap them later on....right now i'm just soaking up the 1199r aura in the garage
