I took delivery of my 1199 S abs on saturday. Two words that can describe this bike are overwhelming and incredible. The reason i say overwhelming is because of all the settings that are possible to customize it to your riding styles. Its very hard to keep your mind on the dealer showing you how to adjust things when you have this amazing looking machine that just wants to be ridden looking back at you.

My 2 options were the dp comfort seat which feels great for long rides (not that i even tried to other seat before more on that later) and the DP clear tank pad.

Ok after my lesson with the different modes what they do and how they are suppose to work i get on my bike and ride to my friends place who has a white 1198s. He couldn't believe how good it looked in person and he has an incredible looking bike. Needless to say we went for a nice long ride.

The bike handles amazing, so easy to take a turn or a curve. Im a bigger guy 5 11 210 and the bike is so light the wind was blowing me around (took some getting use to coming from a zx10r which is much heavier ). After riding about a half hour we switched bikes and here is where i noticed the differences between the 2.

First the 1199 riding position is more comfortable then the 1198. Heat was not a problem on the 1199 to me but the 1198 was noticeably hotter but neither was a problem at all once you start moving. Back to the seat. Once on the comfort seat you can't go back to the regular seat, case closed not even close and the red stitching and alcantera is a great look. The 1198 in lower rpms feels more powerful. I was in default sport mode on the 1199 and i forgot to ask what mode the 1198 was in. The 2 bikes are very different and you can't go wrong with either. I road in default sport mode as i said before and didn't try any other modes. I did not go above 6000 rpms. The engine seemed that it wanted much more then 6k rpms and was kind of begging for me to go past but i didn't.

The sound of the bike from the stock pipes is very good. So good in fact i don't know if i will even get new cans or a full system. The clear tank bad is garbage. It is difficult to put on and it bubbled right away kind of pissed me off but i wasn't going to let that ruin my day(even though I'm anal about that). most people get the carbon one but i don't want a black tank pad on my shiny new red bike. I will try the clear one more time if it doesn't work i will go with a different brand. The led lights are very bright and look great . they actually pushed out to the ends of the "eye" area and point in and down and are reflected forward. A great design if you ask me. The brights are well brighter and you can't ride with the brights on you press a button and they go on but you have to hold that button to keep them on. If you can lock it in place i don't know how to do it. The display is clear even in super bright sunlight. I switched it to night mode and that looked awesome as well.

I had no white smoke problem at all. Its been a long day this may seem like rambling at times but i am sure you get the idea. This is my first ducati and i am very pleased. There may be better bikes out there or there may not be thats an opinion each one of us has to make but i can say i am not disappointed in spending the extra money on this bike. I am actually glad i did. Finally this is hands down the best looking bike out . People stop and stair. You may beat me by 1 or 2 hundreds of a second on a bmw s1000rr but i can assure you nobody will look twice at the bimmer while people stop stair talk turn around and almost walked into a pole trying to get a glimpse of the 1199. Ill take that as an intangible any day of the week.

COMMENT ON THIS AS YOU SEE FIT. Have a nice night

The high beam switch needs to be pushed forward / downward for the brights to remain in the on position. Its in the manual under left hand controls. The flash to pass button is only for temp flicking on the high beams, you don't need to hold that down full time to have them remain on.

thanks about the brights. i didnt read the manual i just got on and went. HA

I was in default sport mode on the 1199 and i forgot to ask what mode the 1198 was in.

Glad you like your bike. The 1198S didn't have any modes - it was always full on - just use your right hand to season to taste.

Nice write up - I appreciate that you rode both the 98 and 99 back-to-back and recorded your observations. Thanks Mark and welcome to the club.
