I need to fit a new hanger - the part that the quickshifter and side stand attach to.

I’ve looked through the workshop manual but I’d appreciate some pointers with regard to what torque should be applied to the various bolts and if any should have threadlock on them. I’ll also want to raise the gearshift lever slightly to make it easier to get my boot under it (reverse shift).

Any tips and pointers would be gratefully received as I’m rather good at overtightening things…

For anyone wondering why on earth that part would need to be replaced, it turned out that the back screw holding the fairing on was made of cheese and it was apparently too small to be drilled out…

Doesn't the shop manual list the exact torque and threadlocker and/or grease type? Those size bolts are probably 25 Nm. If there's threadlocker, likely 243 which is a primerless oil resistant type. If there's grease, I'd think it was moly grease.

The shouldered screw which holds on the lower fairings isn't too small to be drilled. I'd probably try a reverse drill bit or an easy out.

Apparently they tried to drill it out and couldn’t do it. It’s somehow managed to break quite far in.

I found some torque settings for a few of the bolts along with grease types, etc, but there is one bolt on the hanger that clamps it to the round bit and I can’t seem to find the torque setting for that one.

If you mean the one which clamps around the swingarm bolt, I've always just hand tightened it with a stubby allen wrench. But it's the same size as on the clip-ons, top clamp etc. which are 22 Nm.

I think the two that attach the rearsets holder to the hanger are 25nm from memory so that sounds about right.

Threadlock everything to be sure or only where indicated?

It seems that the various bolts are mentioned in different sections. So far I’ve found torque and threadlock recommendations for this one part in sections for the sidestand, quickshifter, rearsets and swingarm… There are still two bolts I’ve not found yet at the front of the part above where the sidestand connects. Such fun…

And I’ve now found the last two in the section for fitting the engine to the frame… Apparently these two need grease on them - I’d have thought there would still be some there as the bike’s only done 1,600km.

All that searching and they are pretty much all 25nm.

If they had grease on them when you took them out, no threadlocker.

Not really. Kind of a judgement call though. The grease is to prevent them from corroding together. If you ride a lot in the rain or are in a costal area near the beach probably a bigger concern.

Rain? Are you kidding?!

I was wondering what it was for. 👍
