I recently flushed my radiator and put new coolant in- and ever since than the bike has seen spiking temps at stop lights- I can only assume there is air in the system but ive tried damn near everything to get it out- warmed bike up with cap off- pushed side to side, squeezed lines. during the summer ive never seen temps reach 218/219 and its 60/65 degrees out and if i hit a stop light it'll climb quick. Any suggestions?

have you turned it upside down yet?

;)

mine leveled itself after a quick 10 min spin and never showed any issues ever since...

sorry i couldn't help you further...

It might be air behind the vertical cylinder.
Put the front wheel on a motorcycle workbench. Rise the workbench as high as possible and let the engine run for a few seconds. That should do the job.

Thanks guys- yes all burping and running has been done with the cap off- it's been at my
In laws so after that drive I need to take it back home and check the level. Deff don't want to keep cycling it up to that temp. Not sure what dangerous heat levels are but I've never her seen her get that warm.

Just rode it home and when I'm going it's normal- when I stopped it climbed to 216 real quick. I've seen it get to 218-219 drops to 170 when I get to going. Even during the summer at stop lights I've never seen it get above 216 I think? Usually around 212-213. Deff something going on in the radiator.

That's not hot. The fan doesn't even come on until 216. Here in AZ my pani regularly gets to 219 sitting in traffic.

Yep. 216 is perfectly fine. In L.A. summer heat, mine has gotten up to 223 but goes back down when moving. I wouldn't worry about it unless it got into the 230's.

lol I knew that would come out of what I said. It is getting too Hot. I've had the bike for 4 years I know what is normal out of it. I'm sure it would continue to climb if I let it. The bike is 100% getting too hot. It will go from 170 to 216 in a matter of a minute or so. I've rode in summer and fall.

Topping it off should take care of said issue after a short drive.

If it keeps sucking air bubbles it never clears them.

Just offering help, no ideas what the issue is, most don't have this.

You probably have air trapped in there somewhere. However, you can always pressure test your system to see if air is getting in from somewhere it shouldn't.

Wouldn't i see radiator fluid coming out somewhere if i had an issue? also i didn't have the issue before i flushed it- Just think there is air trapped somewhere- All i did was drop the fluid from the radiator via the screw on the side- Pulled the hose off the side of the reservoir and dumped it- flushed distilled water ( around 3 gallons ) through the radiator ( dumped in the top and kept the drain plug open and let it flow through) than also rinsed out reservoir. Put it back together- filled through main cap- kept letting it sitting and squeezing cooling lines- let it keep going down than adding more- than when i didn't see it go down anymore i filled the reservoir tank. Not sure how this can really even be messed up haha. However i didnt get the amount that the maintenance book says it takes- so thats why i think theres air trapped and its not allowing it to fill up.

Hi Tyler,

The best solution might just be to dump it again and start a fresh. I did mine 2 weeks ago with no issues, but I did notice that when I blipped the throttle with the radiator cap off the level dropped substantially.

Good luck.

P.S. Big thanks to Gunny for suggesting the Engine Ice (about 3 years ago).

...more than likely you've got an air bubble in there....I've had it happen, and only 1 time (it's happened about 2 or 3 times over the years) did it clear itself while just riding along - the other times I took it back to the shop and they essentially (with tie down straps attached) layed it completely over on its side and burped it.....not easy to do in your garage unless you've got exposed rafters or a way to hook things up....and not very confidence building while doing it on your own, until of course you're successful

Yup got it guys thanks! Took it off again ran it with cap off more- saw air bubbles come out filled it up did it again moved it side to side. Rode today and let it sit and run after and it got to 217 fans kicked on temp started dropping immediately got back down to 200 quickly. Before it just kept climbing.- all is good now! Radiators are coming back off anyways to fix the vertical cylinder oil leak haha

Glad it all worked out for you.

Yup- I did this the first time too not sure why all the bubbles didn't come out than. 2nd time
Was the charm I guess.
