I've rebuilt alot of forks, but never the Marzocchi. I have a few questions for someone who has actually had them apart. I have a leak seeping where the inner tube slips inside the bottom casting (where axle is) the other side did the same and the guy who installed the carts ate the work and repaired. Turns out he never had that apart and it is popping up on other bikes, so I wouldn't ask him to eat this one. First, is it an O-ring leaking? is there a drawing available? He said when he had the other one apart, it was a mess with some kind of sealant or locktite. Second question, is there any trick to taking the fork caps off to just top off my oil for next weekend? It is the tiniest of seepage, and Mark Rozema From Markbuilt says to "run it" but wouldnt mind keeping an eye on the oil height.
Thanks

You should be ok. But Mark is right, keep an eye on it. You will have to have the tubes apart to reassemble them properly. The fork tubes are usually loctited to the fork bottoms and require heat to come apart. Most people only disassemble them this far when they want to replace a bent tube. You can try Ferracci or Race Tech as they both deal with this on a regular. Ferracci having experience with Italian marks like MV that have always come stock with these forks. Of Race Tech is everything fork related. Sorry, I don't have a lot experience with this brand of forks past seals and springs. :/

Thanks Speedhaus. I have done a lot of forks, never these. Can I just put it on my triple stand and pull the caps up enough to measure air gap?
I am wondering if I can pull the bolt holding the cartridge (above axle) and the adjuster screw, then heat and tap the bottom off with a soft mallet? Does anyone have a parts breakdown for these forks so I can look at pics and source o ring?
Thanks folks

Brett,

You can check your oil level quickly this way. I've done it this way at the track. As far as taking the tubes apart from the fork bottoms you will have to dissemble the whole fork; cartridge out of the fork bottom. It sounds like whoever put them back together didn't clean all the old Loctite and the mating of the tubes and the bottoms wasn't clean. If there is an o-ring then it may be pinched or rolled. Sorry, I know this sucks. But better to be safe then sorry right?

Thanks guys!
I've heard of a handful of people with this problem already, leaked from the factory. I will double check my fork oil, and tear the fork down and repair properly next week.

Time to fix this. I tried to find a parts breakdown showing the fork bottom disassembled but couldn't, they show it as one part with the tube. Does anyone here know for fact if it is threaded into the base?
