Changed my oil, and found this...

Huge amount of metal shavings on my magnet, btw this oil only did about 2100 miles.

plus these ceramic looking fragments at the bottom of my oil drain catch bucket.

A moto tech i spoke with said it looks like a failing bearing cage that the 1299’s have ceramic bearing cages for the crank bearing and transmission bearing. Has anyone seen anything like this before? What should my next steps be to ensure the bike continues its life without suffering a catostrophic failure. Is what im being told true, or if not what are these fragments.

Crank and rod bearings are not caged nor are they roller bearings. Additionally there are no ceramic retention cages in the gearbox bearing assemblies. Those pieces are fairly uniform in size and shape. Are they metallic? If so are they magnetic? How pliable is the material? I would at the very least pull the pan, check the screen and look around.

I had the same plastic tabs in my oil last time i changed it, there are a few threads claiming they are from assembly and nothing to worry about. Im not sure about the metal shavings, i had a little but not as much as your pic.

These look different to me than the pieces that were posted In numerous threads before, that’s why I chimed in. Maybe not, don’t know

Nope, they look identical to what i had. Wouldnt worry about it, enjoy your bike!

they are not magnetic... they almost look like plastic/ceramic.

Kinda funny to see nothing to worry about. So ducati builds a motor with stuff floating around in the oil? Not surprised.

just to add to the subject, i also had the same items appear in my Oil after a full strip down.. but when I asked my dealer it was assured that were just parts from the generator, and not to worry....

I would do a few miles then drop the oil again and monitor, filter the oil no need to renew, wouldn't ignore it and if its on the road refrain from going metal on it for a while until you see if more shows up. It is funny what .... seems to show up inside these motors!

Those are your generators baby teeth

Now you posed to go to dealer and give them $1000 for each one that fell out : )

I would be pulling all covers and inspecting everything

Starting with the plastic gears

again, don't stress about it, I had the same issue and just dropped oil and filters and carried on.. i think i have completed about 10 track days since with no issues, no extra wear evidence in the oil since.

I had them in my original motor , they arent metalic but some sort of hard plastic, raced and tracked that engine for 9000km and no problems . I changed that engine out for a freshly rebuilt F.E. motor , no plastic bits in that, so its probably something used in the factory assembly . I agree its a bit piss poor though. I wouldnt worry about the shavings either, my engine builder says its quite normal for a fair amount to be residual on the magnet. They are a tough motor.

After over 23k miles and countless oil changes all done by me, I've probably had close to 20 of those things in the oil. Still runs perfectly fine, and I do ride it hard.

Piss poor fer shur

The stuff on the mag is prolly from the tranny and all the other gears. That is normal

Parts in oil pan not good. There is a screen in the pick up. Hope you are cleaning it out
