Front Brake Noise?

Just noticed on my 1299 when slowing down from about 30Mph if I am getting hard on the front brakes I am kind of getting for lack of a better description a groan from the front brakes? Seems to happen about under 20Mph to stop. If I am light on the lever no noise but if I start to give it some harder braking it seems to make a lower pitched groan. Sorry for the strange description but not sure how else to describe it.

It isn't a high pitched squeal like worn pads that I have ever heard its more of a lower harmonic noise? I haven't ever heard this from motorcycle brakes before...? I tried braking hard from higher speed but cant hear it at all. Just seems to be a low speed coming to a stop issue?

I checked pads and rotors both look just fine?

Will see if that helps. Bike had been sitting for around a year when I bought it so maybe they just got crap on them. Bike stops fine just makes that noise at a certain speed and pressure on brakes. You can't feel it in the lever either.

I was cleaning wheels and could have gotten cleaning crap on rotors too. :rolleyes:

Pads look ok from the front looks like plenty of wear left on them...

I had the same issue i changed my stock pads to new ones noise went away. I feel like the stock one even though they seem to have alot of meat left , once they are at 30% life they make a noise.

Thanks for info I will order some pads. What do you guys recommend?
 
Pull the pads out and if there is plenty left give them a couple of scrapes on flat concrete. This will make them bed in again. While they are out get an old tooth brush and soapy water and clean the pistons. If you can get them pumped out a few mm you can clean the road grime pad dust that makes a ridge which stops the pads releasing clear from the rotor

I will try that this weekend. Does anyone know the TQ Specs on the caliper bolts?

What are the Brand and Model are the OEM Pads? Are they only available from dealer?

The pads look OK I don't know how thick they were originally I would say from other bikes pads I have changed they are about half worn. Bike only has 3500 Miles on it but maybe PO was hard on brakes etc. I can see there is material and its not worn down to where the wear lines in the pads stop.

I can try and get a picture tomorrow.

43NM with grease on the thread and back of bolt head. For road use , go on line and look at the SBS range. Don’t go for track orientated pads ( they need constant heat or can be to aggressive for road use.)
 
Fluid change wouldnt go astray. Get a power bleeder to make quick work of it. Plenty of info out there to make it an easy job
