I pulled in to my garage today, and noticed the big reflector that was on the front left fork, laying on the floor. Has anyone else had these fall off??

I had one fall off, took the other one off. You can tell since they're adhesive it's a transparent attempt to me DOT regs lol.

I've taken mine off too.

But, in California, removing them is illegal and sufficient cause for a traffic stop.

I got a 35.00 "fix it" ticket on my Monster. Riding down the road, local police cruiser pulled along side for a few seconds, dropped back then lit me up. Fortunately, I was abiding by the speed limit!

He said, law requires reflectors affixed front and rear and that he knew they were there when I bought the bike. I think he was expecting a young kid under the helmet but wrote the ticket, nonetheless.

I had to buy the reflectors, put them back on the bike, make an appointment with the police department for them to inspect the bike and sign the ticket and then had to pay 35.00.

Took the reflectors off when I got back home. Two nights later I ran into a sobriety check point on the newly re-de-reflectorized Monster and that same effing officer was there and recognized me. That SOB pulled me out of line and gave me another ticket for riding a non-street legal/modified motorcycle on public streets - COST: 250.00.

And, I took the reflectors off again. But, I don't go through that town anymore! Watch out you other NORCAL riders - this was in Danville.

Thanks for reminding me why I left Cali years ago!

live in socal, ton's of super modified bikes. Cops only write tickets if they pull you over for speeding or reckless driving and then they tack on the bs fix-it tickets. Otherwise they leave you alone for all the mods.

Hahaha, love this story (the parts where you keep taking off the reflectors at least, not the parts where you get fined of course).

Wow! All that for some silly reflectors. My dealer didn't install them or even give them to me.

They've fallen off the Panigale too...

And, I don't think this kind of petty "enfarcement" is just limited to California - though we have plenty of it.

Isn't Buford T. Justice from Georgia?

Didn't someone just post a link to a rider in Texas getting tossed about because the local constabulary wanted his video "evidence" WITHOUT benefit of due process and search and seizure rights?

Likely there are more than a few Buford T. Justices all around the world...

Was this CHP ?

It would be interesting to see if reflect rim tape would meet the intent of the law.

I only mention it because they are required in AZ and once when I was pulled over in Scottsdale the officer mentioned that I had no rear side reflector. I pointed out that the rims reflected. She shined her flashlight on the rims and it was apparent they reflected light. She shrugged her shoulder, said "cool" and that was that. She then gave me a verbal warning for speeding (10 over on the highway), told me to ride safely and have a nice evening.

My panigale was delivered without any reflectors on the forks. They are in the box with the rear view mirrors, passenger seat, pegs, stock grips, accessory manual and brochure.

Reflectors....really? I wonder if I put a baseball card in my spokes if I would be jacked up? Are those handle bar streamers legal?
