FRONT TIRE

I do as much track as road and am almost through my 3rd rear and front looks ok. I’m more focused on having the best tyre for the track rather than the road as I don’t push hard on the roads anymore.

I don’t seem to be able to get as much heat into the front as other bikes I’ve owned and even run my pressure a little lower to assist in keeping temps up.

Anyone running a softer front than the original?

Which tires do you run? On my race bike I run the Pirelli slicks. SC1 front and SC 2 rear. I push the front pretty hard which is why I opted for the softer front.

I also run the SC1 slick. But the carcass construction between the road SC tyres and the slick tyres is not the same.
The SC1 slick has the same construction as the SC2 road tyre. The SC1 road tyre has a softer construction.
Personally I'm not a fan of the softer construction, as it makes the front feel like it's moving when loaded, when in reality it's the carcass deforming. You need to be pushing on to feel it though. And, running a higher pressure in the SC1 road tyre goes some way to counteracting this.

I can definitely feel it moving when I’m hard in the turns. I also flip my rear tires on my race bike. I usually will run two days and flip. 4 days total. I will run the fronts for about 8 days.

The OP never really stated which tires he is running so I don’t want to derail the thread and not try and answer his question.

I’m looking for new tires for my bike. 2014 6,000 miles with a ton of tread left. Anyways I see only Pirelli has the same size I currently have on my bike. 180/60/r17 Pirelli Rosso Corsa II. I can find a lot of 18/55/r17. What would the size difference do to my speedo and traction control?

I’m running the supercorsa SP V3.

I have toyed with a second set of wheels with slicks for the track but I struggle with space in my garage.

Just wondering if there are better options for the front for the track but can be ridden on the road in the dry. I don’t ride in the wet unless caught out and even then dial it back massively.

Purchased some 1199 rims for the slicks. I'm on my second street tire now it a Rossi III 200/55/17. Francesca really loves to eat the pirelli SC2 slicks so I run the SC3 rear slick instead. I get much more wheel spin but it's nothing the TC can't handle. I run an SC1 one front slick it's holding up very well. I run the recommended pressures off the warmers.

I am running the Diablo Rossi corsa II. The rear comes in the 200/60. Have more than double the miles on the rear than I got with the original supercorsa and there's a lot left.

200/65 SC1 Pirelli by afternoon but I'm still chasing suspension set-up

Michelin Power Slick 2 after a Road America day. Guessed at settings in DES and rode it.

Here is a question

how often do you change your front tire?

I normaly do 2 rears for 1 front (but the front doesnt even look weared out

Anyone does 3 Rears for one front?

just a question, i know you should not be cheap on tires, but just want to know if i am doing it right

Depending on where you ride the typical camber on the road is between three and 5% on average. even if your front tire looks OK, by the time you’ve gone through a couple of years it’s worn unevenly. If you are just commuting back-and-forth on straight roads it doesn’t matter but if you want to take it out into the hills then I would be changing it every couple of rears whether it looks worn or not.

not good, what pressure are you running it looks like a hot tear.

I'm fairly certain it is as well, I've tried 24-28 in rear with no improvements. I think the overly soft front and I've chopped about 12 pounds of weight off the rear wheel assembly is the main problem and not transferring weight to the rear, and perhaps too much engine braking.

are you using warmers and you need to check when you come off the track and adjust accordingly, you also might have adjust the compression a little.

haha., not a suspension issue at all,. tire pressure is far far too low.. hot on warmers 25psi for most, for some as high as 29psi.. ..

one more thing , you said something about trying to improve by changing pressure, this tire wont improve, its too late.. maybe if youd drive around like grandma for 4 hours and wear that all off .. anyway, id start on a new tire, put warmers, set pressure to maybe 27 hot.. with an accurate gauge.. if youre heavier bump to 30 hot..
i will assume all track riding, and u have proper spring rate.. anyway, top shelf, among the worst hot tearing ive seen in a long time, made me laugh.. tire guy will love you.. good luck..

2:1 or 3:1 is a moot point.
Following 2:1, you'll probably want to try a new iteration of tires as a pair.
