Full System Install - Reuse Exhaust Gaskets?

On my 1199 and Streetfighter V4 I always bought new gaskets. But every install video I’ve watched no one replaces them. Some use high temp RTV. I was going to try re-using them but found an exhaust leak on the OEM header, so I’ll be buying a set.

Do you guys replace them every time? Do you use any RTV?

If I had the gasket on hand I’d replace it but if I didn’t have one and it didn’t appear damaged I’d reuse it.

Gaakets are cheap relative to having to the job twice

Good advice from brad and I have never seen any references to using any sealant on this application nor have I ever seen that done or recommend. New gaskets and good to go. Unfortunately, yes you will be paying the “Ducati” price but that’s part of the brand experience.

I saw sealant being used on two videos whereas it was a Ducati dealer tech doing the work.

The price isn't as bad as the wait. This time of year unless Ducati Omaha has them in stock I'm sure its 1-2 weeks away.

Really? Does the manual specify a sealant on the exhaust gasket? I’ve never looked.

The older PDF version of the install instructions I have makes no mention of the gaskets at all.

I actually got a printed set of instructions with the full system I just bought, and it recommends new gaskets.

And this type of work it’s done by the dealer?what the problem to put 4 new gaskets on bike cost $8 per pice?every gasket is designed to compress and is one time use.this Dealer probably reuse head gaskets also

Not just the dealer in that particular video. I've watched at least two other videos of different Ducati service techs doing the same thing.

Even if one were to use RTV, I think there are better application methods than smearing it all over the gasket.

Meanwhile, someone paid about $1000 for this install. …..

Yeah, I watched the whole video and the guy seems to be a decent tech and not a typical goon. I didn’t notice, but is it the stainless or the titanium system?

In any case the goopy sealant is definitely not required. The pipes have cast inlets that have machined flat mating surfaces and will not leak unless the tech is a goon and damages the sealing surface(s). In fact, the sealant will definitely burn into a discolored mess and if slopped onto thinner titanium pipe, can cause a crack in the pipe at that point.

Looks like the goopy sealant is a local policy/procedure likely in place due to previous or current goon-techs making stupid goon errors while servicing the bikes.

The full Akrapovic system is all titanium. Only Termi has a full steel system.

Oddly enough, my stock bike had an exhaust leak on the front left cylinder from the factory.
