Its pretty bright considering its just one LED. You can bend the tucked license plate frame to not be so tucked in which it will catch a little light from the LED. Fully tucked though, the plate just catches the top edge of the LED.
Most of the light cast here is from the tail light but there's a good portion which is white light from the LED for license plate illumination.
This is the plate fully tucked and as close the frame/tank as possible. You can see how just the top edge of the plate catches the light.
I don't really ride at night so its not a huge deal to me.
