hi all just curious weather i should purchase the generator cover

i understand the clutch cover is needed when and incase you drop the bike that the clutch cover doesnt crack leaks oil so you cant ride off.

but to double check does the generator do anything similar?
its more of the fact that if i drop the bike will it still be rideable if drop on generator.

sorry not really sure if oil fluid or etc. is needed for the generator guessing not.

Wait, these covers actually serve a purpose? I thought they just looked cool. :) Seriously, I would think a fall that did that much damage to the cover would do enough other damage you couldn't ride it anyway imho.

im just thinking in most cases if i slide crash i can ride away unless things like leaking oil stop me. so i understand the reason to get a clutch cover cause there engine oil within. just wondering if the generator has anything like that

if not i wont buy it cause ether way insurance will fix it up or replace it.
main concern is geting home on the day.

There is oil in the generator cover also:).

Even if you don't crack the case you will for sure scratch it up and you every time you look at the scratched up case ( if you were lucky and it only did scratch it) you be kicking yourself and will regret that you did not spend the extra $ for it as well.

If you ever want to sell the bike the new buyer will say to you " That bike has been crashed, I can see the scratched up generator case cover".

To replace the guard is much cheaper..................
They might not help at all, you might not need either but you won't know till you try, it's the same thing with the helmet you wear:rolleyes:

Shift-Tech Carbon - ST415MS LEFT ENGINE CASE GUARD 1199 - SATIN FINISH

Someone posted their or their friends crash somewhere on this forum and said the covers did there job and held up.

+1 i read that covers do well. I guess ill buy covers knowing there is oil in generator side

The carbon only covers don't have the rigidity for any real crashes. At least the GB's are FIM approved. I had Carbon covers on my KTM, and it still cracked the first time I crashed.

I have gone down on an rsv4 with the gb covers. Worked a charm. Went with them on my panigale as well.

All depends on the actual product you have, there is cheap and then there is good stuff.

Multiple layers of Carbon + Kevlar is what you want and that's what we have, just for that reason. They will hold up just as good as the R&G version.
Just a few layers of carbon won't do the trick but it will make it much easier to advertise them at a much much lower price.

The R&G is a good alternative, if you like the look.

That's great and all, they may be wear resistant when sliding, but they do not withstand impacts as well. Notice "GB RACING", not RG. They actually have standoff from the case cover. CF covers are not approved through any race organization I'm aware of.

GB, R&G:), yep mix them up, I just don't pay to much attention to them.
Race approvals always depend on who put's how much money up for something at the right place;)

Yes there is some validity to that, but if you go to any track they either have heavily reinforced covers (Graves/Woodcraft/ETC) or the GB ones. CF is great for bling on the cover, but I have crashed with both types on. Bottom line is if you want true protection you need a race cover or GB equivalent (long strand glass fiber composite).
